Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow?????

Does it snow in Davidson NC? About how much? Do people play in the snow? What about snowmen? Thanks

It definitely does snow, and I'm sure you can make snowmen there... we make hugeass snowmen in GEORGIA so... :] In Davidson, average snowfall is about an inch per month for Dec, Feb, and March, 2 inches for Jan.

kool, im from south mississippi and have only seen snow 2 or 3 times in my whole life. and even then it wasnt very much.

When my daughter was a student at Davidson I don't think there was ever enough snow to make a snowman or to require that paths be shoveled or anything other than regular shoes be worn. I know it did snow at least once when she was there and perhaps for the students from the South there was enough snow to play in but I think that would be the exception. A real snowfall of multiple inches that stuck to the ground for more than a few hours would be unusual and not likely to happen every year.

hmm....

well i seem to have gotten two different answers

North Carolina has been a little scant on snow in the last few years.

Yeah i think that INVENIAMVIAM and i just have a completely different deffinition of playable snowfall than Mattmom does. Well thanks everybody.

my dad (went there) said he wore flip flops through the end of december. i think they have mild winters, and it does snow but not nearly enough to make a snowman.

Here's a link to a very unusual storm, Jan 23, 2003, that dropped 7" in Mecklenburg & Iredell counties. "all 100 counties in North Carolina received measurable snowfall."

January 23, 2003 Winter Storm

You'd probably have a 50:50 chance of seeing an event like this in 4 years at Davidson, but then again it might occur when school is not in session. :( Make your snowman fast. The snow usually falls wet and is gone within a day.

And then there is the March 15, 1993 Storm of the Century. It dumped up to 60 inches in the NC mountains. Birmingham, AL got 17" of snow. Temps dropped below zero in the mountains and 100mph winds were recorded. Charlotte was cold and windy, but it didn't much snow. But a 50 miles to the west there was over a foot of snow. The rain-snow line will drives weather forecasters in the piedmont crazy. If it shifts by a 10-15 miles they can look like total idiots. You will probably only see snow once for every 3 times it is forecast.

Last year it snowed just a few inches, just on one day
