Let me have it

Hey all-

I'm considering transferring as a junior to Dartmouth, Brown, Hopkins, and Cornell... Sadly, I'm not sure if it's worthwhile. My stats don't seem nearly as high as the majority of successful transfers on this site... but then again, I'm fairly new. I'd truly appreciate an honest assessment of where you think I stand in the running.

Thanks.

Currently enrolled: Trinity College in Hartford, CT

GPA: 3.67 1st semester; 4.0 2nd semester.... I think that works up to ~3.8

Scores: SAT I was 1390 (750 V 640 M) SAT II's were 740 Writing 760 Lit

EC's: took a year off before high school and interned at NPR, backpacked for two months in southeast Asia, currently writing for the school newspaper

Recs: the one from my english professor would be stellar... not only did she go to Dartmouth, she's told me that she considers me one of the best students in the school... the other one i get from another teacher should be fine as well

Hooks/Awards: dad is alum at Hopkins, National Merit Commendation, enrolled in honor's program (top 3% percent of school body) at trinity, won an award freshman year for an essay (it'll be published sophomore year as an example for the incoming freshman class)

Gorilla-on-back: GPA in HS was a 3.2, i think. Upward trend every year, with a 4.0, i think, senior year... but still... not great. Not many ec's in high school, not many at all in college.

So on the whole, do I have a decent shot? What should I work on next year? My course lineup for fall semester right now stands as: arabic 101, 2 honor's classes (history and literature), and the basic writing 101 class required for english majors.

This was long. Sorry. But thanks a ton.

Trinity is a great institution so a 3.7 from there is weighted more heavily than most other schools. HOwever, most of the schools you are planning on applying to seem like slight reaches think about adding a couple of matches and maybe even a safety or two. Other than that I believe your chances are just better than average.

Hm, I got into Brown from a CC with lower SAT IIs, but I had a 4.0 for two years, and I applied 4 years ago, so it might have changed.

I'd say you're in pretty good shape for Brown at least.
