Did anyone else get a letter from your admissions officer? It had a personal postscript on the bottom. I'm from the West Coast btw.

I got a personalized letter as well. I feel bad because it has been my dream to go to Yale and now I will end up declining Yale's offer for a delux scholarship at UNC Chapel Hill.

Yeah, I got one from my regional person. She said she liked my essay. :)

Was the letter stand-alone or was it included in your acceptance package?

i got one too...

just as i was opening it i saw it was a thin envelope and i was like just joking saying to my dad "ope they messed up they actually meant to reject me!"

and this is what the handwritten post-script said:

"I enjoyed getting to know you in your essays; it's NOT a fluke, you belong here and I hope to see you at Bulldog Days!"

how did she know i thought it was a fluke!?!? i kind of jokingly mentioned it to an alum from the local yale club who called me, but the letter was sent out before he called....

::creepy twilight zone music plays::

Yeah, I got a little nervous when I saw the very small envelope, but when I opened it, I got excited! It said how I was a very good candidate for Yale and how the regional rep was very proud to have represented me, and he also commented on how he hoped that Yale would still be my top choice (since, as he said, it had been a long wait since I was deferred early).

Seven Nights, I feel the same way. Especially because after my EA acceptance, I emailed my rep thanking him and telling him how it was a dream come true. He was like "it's so extremely gratifying" to hear from the kids he represents... now I feel like crap turning down Yale for somewhere else (Brown PLME). And to top it off, I just got another handwritten card from a current Yalie. Yale went out of its way to recruit its acceptees, much more than any other school that I got into.

I received it as well.

But you're going to have a blast with Brown PLME (a good friend of mine is a PLME, studying Japanese!), they'll understand. :)

Did anyone besides me not get a personalized note but still get in? I feel slighted!

For whatever reason the personalized note made it seem infinitley more signifigant. That's a good call on the admissions officers' parts.

Ya. I have to admit that the personalized letters were the best recruiting tool I have seen to date. Seeing an actual note in pen and not some black/white photocopied comment makes you feel like they actually care about you versus just being another number.

quite honestly? it was the personalized note from the yale admit officer & the emails/calls from local alumns that convinced me to choose yale over MIT last year. yale just made me feel like they valued me more as a person... totally agree with you, Seven Nights and barski222. the personal contact is definitely a good call on the admissions office's part.

and last year, the best part was that i didn't feel like the yale alums etc. were pressuring me to accept yale, but really wanted me to pick whatever school i thought was best for me (even if they did hope i was going to pick yale). one of them actually came up to me and said, "i know you're trying to choose between yale and mit, and both of my brothers went to MIT, so if you'd like, I can tell you some of the pros and cons of mit v. yale. and i'll try to be as objective as possible." and guess what? he was. and that was just SO helpful and it made me feel like yale actually cared.

and now i'm helping continue that by emailing this year's admitted Yale freshmen... :-P wheee!

Well Brown is pretty good at being objective as well....the frickin tour guide/representative TOLD me to go to Yale...somehow it doesn't make the choice easier.

Was the note on the acceptance letter?

It was on a letter from my regional admissions rep which I recieved in the last couple of days.

I got my note on a letter from my regional director after being accepted. I really liked getting the personalized note, esp. from a large university. I didn't expect it at all.

barski, really? why did the Brown tour guide say that?

My daughter's a freshman there now, and was excited to get the handwritten note from her admissions officer last year about her essay.

Postscript: The essay was about dance, and the admissions officer emailed my daughter during the year to ask how things were going and say she'd love to come to a performance. When my daughter told her the show was this weekend, the admissions officer showed up to see it on Friday night. On top of that, the dean of my daughter's residential college brought his little girl to the show last night; he recognized my husband and me from move-in weekend and rushed over to say hello. How nice is that?

Well apparently her first choice was Yale and she didn't get in...Yale's fin aid is also 10k a year better but I'm trying to get Brown to match it. In any case, she straight out told me that I should really go to Yale when I explained the situation. I was especially surprised as she is a SENIOR at Brown who was there to plug the school to a group of admitted students!
