ok, one of my teachers whom i asked for a Recommendation letter is an alumnus. he is really awesome, and i really enjoyed his class. but would the P'ton adcom reps even know he's an alumnus? do they check?

btw, i also got the optional rec letter from a prof. at Princeton. hes not like one of my father's friends or anything trivial like that. i really worked under him this summer for about 25hrs/week and really fell in love with the whole P'ton atmosphere and the faculty/student body.

but what i'm asking is this. Would the fact that the rec letter is from a princeton prof. carry much weight?

It'll probably look a lot more impressive than a peer recommendation or just another teacher.
But I guess it all depends on what is being said in the letter.

But, I think it WILL probably make you look really good

i found out today that a prominent UC Davis professor that ran a summer research program was a princeton alumni....dang it...i should have gone to it for the recommendation...:(

Princeton alumni live and die by the class numerals appended to their names (Brooke Shields '87, for example.) There is no chance in the world that an alum would write a letter and not let the admission office know he or she is an alum.
