Hello everyone, I hope you all have been keeping safe. I just wanted to ask for some advice. What do you think about this Appeal letter to a scholarship committee? (Grammer and content)
I am writing in appreciation of the generous contributions that have been made through the to myself since September, 2017 as well as an appeal to continue with the scholarship as I am now faced with a challenge. With your support I have been able to complete 3 of my 5 years programme, that is, the Bachelors of Medicine, Bachelors of Surgery (MBBS). This scholarship is without a doubt one of the greatest achievements in my 22 years. I have been blessed for the past three years as I escaped the worrisome burden of school fees which had a positive impact on my mental health allowing me to focus more on my studies. I was happy to relieve my mother from the fear of not being able to send her daughter to university seeing that her annual income earned from street vending which she has been doing for over 20 years now at the would not be able to cover the expenses of this journey. Not only this but I was spared the hassle of applying for loans and reapplying for grants and scholarships which I did with excitement when I received my provisional offer of acceptance for the the university, I remember the rigorous process of applying for as much as ten (10) scholarships whilst preparing for my examinations. For these and many other reasons, I do not take this blessing for granted.
I am now entering my 4th year of the MBBS programme. It has been a rough three years but by the grace of God I was able to make it thus far amidst all the challenges I faced. I remember while I was in my first year, I looked at the seniors and wondered if I would ever make it that far but here I am today, I have fought physically and mentally to overcome. However my transitions were evidently a struggle as it reflected in my GPA at the end of my first year landing me to 2.77. This without a doubt came with consequences to the scholarship as I was placed on probation since the minimum to maintain the scholarship is 3.0. With this in mind, in addition to trying to settle into the MBBS programme, finding new studying techniques and figuring out how to survive and continue the programme whilst being away from family for the first time, I worked tirelessly night and day. By the end of my 2nd second year with passion and determination I learnt how to survive successfully and ended with a 3.5 GPA for my first semester and 3.2 GPA for my second semester. This victory built my confidence and drive for 3rd year which went smoothly for the first semester. However, my second semester required another transition which has know led to my detriment and hence my appeal. I had to now transition from the lecture theatre to the hospital. I had to learn to complete the practical aspects of my courses during the day which involved being on the wards never missing a ward round, examining my patients and attending classes as well as travelling back and forth from the as I rotated through the various specialties at these two hospitals in addition to the . This also required the sacrifice of leaving home earlier in the mornings and returning later whilst trying to keep abreast in my readings. This transition was disastrous in my case which has now led to a GPA of 2.7.
It is my hope and my plea if it be possible for just another chance on this scholarship even with some amendments to the benefits as I try to figure out once more what I can do differently to improve my performance. I know I have been asked if I was sure I wanted to continue in the MBBS programme when the struggles came across but I remained still knowing that this is my hearts desire amidst the challenges. It has been and continues to be my intention to succeed at the university in spite of the road blocks. My aim and my desire is to grow beyond these tests and trials and to become a better individual from the lessons learnt rather than to use challenges as excuses or allow myself to wallow in self-pity. Nonetheless, it would be understandable if this appeal is unsuccessful seeing that times are challenging and there are countless other hardworking students. Once again, thank you for your time and consideration.
