Good evening all,

I am a prospective VCCS transfer student and was advised at the end of last week to submit my letter of intent for this Fall semester. I was under the impression letters of intent were to be submitted a year prior to the applicant's matriculation date. Imagine my immense joy to be told I would be still be guaranteed admissions if I submitted the letter as soon as possible (i.e. last Friday). However as a worrywart, I cannot help but question the truth behind my advisor's statements. Is it possible for my letter of intent to be rejected? I am a fastidious student but feel that my 3.7 GPA will not be sufficient for admittance if the letter falls through. Help please!

i’m sure W&M Admissions will chime in, but my impression is that acceptance is guaranteed if you meet all the requirements, which I believe include a certain GPA and a list of courses that need to be completed.

You should contact our dean for transfer admission (Kim Van Deusen – kcbake@wm.edu). She may no longer be accepting letters of intent for Fall 2012 (mainly because the transfer application deadline is next week and if you’re missing any required components of the guaranteed admission agreement there’s no time to make them up).

If she okays submitting the letter than there’s no penalty and if you meet all of the requirements you’ll be admitted.

If she doesn’t accept the letter at this point you’ll simply apply through the regular transfer admission process. Generally speaking, VCCS students who complete an AA/AS/AAS, who were full-time students and who have a 3.6 GPA or higher are admitted at very high rates.

Thank you! I will definitely email her. I appreciate the responses. Wish me luck!
