Can I ask a teacher from my previous school to write a letter of recommendation for my college application?
I am a senior who recently switched school (only for senior year) and I want to ask my junior year teachers that are at my previous schools.
Also does teachers write one same letter of recommendation that I send to all the schools I am applying to? In that case the teacher probaly shouldn’t mention individual school names in the letter right?
Thank you for your time!
For question one, yes, it’s probably fine (b/c you don’t know your senior year teachers, so a letter from them wouldn’t add much to your application) but definitely check with your guidance counselor (or the colleges you’re applying to) if you have any questions.
For the latter, yes, your teacher submits ONE letter of recommendation to the Common Application, which you can assign to as many colleges as necessary. This is why teachers usually write general letters (to whom it may concern etc. instead of to a specific college,) and colleges know and understand that you’re applying to schools other than them.
The only exceptions would be if you’re applying to a college using their own, specific application (which means that letter would only be sent to that school;) a supplemental letter of recommendation is being sent BY THE RECOMMENDER to a college by mail/email etc.
Hope that helps! Good luck with admissions!
