Letters from Duke

I have applied RD for Duke, and so far I have gotten a few letters from the heads of several programs I have applied to at Duke. They invite me to join the programs they represent- for example, one from the director of Duke's Focus program tells the highlights and good stuff of the program. It says that if I get admission, they hope I choose their program.

My question is, Do these letters mean I have a better chance of admission than the rest of the other applicants? I have talked to a few of my friends who have also applied to Duke and they say they haven't really gotten anything from Duke so far. Thanks.

Those letters also probably say (as the FOCUS one definitely does) that they are being sent to all applicants. Unless you receive a likely letter, assume that your chances are the same as everybody else’s-- and believe me, if you’d gotten a likely letter, you’d know.

@Zzwicker: They really have no significance re RD admission, as you’d know if you had read several previous CC threads concerning this subject before posting your question (one of which, <a href=“Likely Letters - Duke University - College Confidential Forums”>Likely Letters - Duke University - College Confidential Forums, is still on the first page of the Duke forum). Regardless of what university you attend next year, you might want to consider the possibility that doing basic research before asking others will likely be mandatory.
