Letters of Rec

I dont fully understand what Letters of reccomendations are from teachers and counselers...and when am i supposed to get them done? Im a junior in highschool btw...

I wouldn’t worry about LOR just yet since you’re a junior. I asked for my teacher LOR around the beginning of my senior year. I’m sure that when you come back from summer vacation or before school ends your guidance counselor will set an appointment with you and discuss the process. That’s what my school does anyway. For us, my GC had me write about myself on Naviance. He took the information I wrote and used it as a source to write my LOR.

LORs are letters that teachers/GC write about your accomplishments, what you can offer to the school, and basically boast about how great you are lol. That means you should ask a teacher you have a close relationship with to write you your LOR since he/she knows you more.

Oh, and most of the time you are not allowed to read the LOR.

My son s both asked their teachers for LOR in the Spring of Jr year. The teachers then had all summer and into the Fall (reminders about it) to write them. This way the teachers knew the kids wanted them to write them. Some popular teachers max out I hear and won’t write for everyone.

Sometime in the Fall of senior year, my sons gave the teachers a typed list of schools/addresses they were applying to, envelopes and stamps and the teachers sent the recs directly to the schools.

So do u think its best that I start the LOR process next week, this week is gonna be hectic with ACTs and all…Ill have to ask some of my freinds about what theyre doing. How many do u think is a good number of LORs? thanks for the feedback!
