Letters of Recommendation and Early Action Deadline

Would like a clarification on this. My son is meeting all requirements for the Early Action deadline, including two teachers’ LOR’s and the guidance counselor’s. However, at the last minute, he decided to ask for another LOR from his music mentor. With the time running out, is it okay to submit this particular LOR a few days after the deadline or does it need to meet the Nov. 1 deadline?

just send it in.
it cant hurt .

The SCEA and RD deadlines are for the college to receive the student’s Common Application. All other components that are not in the student’s full control – including transcript, teacher recommendations, supplemental recommendations, test scores, and interview report – can dribble in a few days after the deadline.

Keep in mind that a student’s file will usually not be read until all REQUIRED materials have been received. However, as an additional LoR is beyond the scope of the actual requirements, a student’s file might be given a first reading before the additional LoR has been received. As such, the music mentor should FAX their letter to Harvard Admissions as soon as they are able, and your son should upload the letter through the applications portal.

@gibby - Great, thank you again for all your help!

@TiggerDad - FYI - after your son applied, he would have received an email from Harvard giving a weblink for recommendations over the common app quota. So, if your son has open slots on common app, he can use that. If not, ask the teacher to use the Harvard provided link.
