Did anyone else get letters from National Merit in April or May of this year stating that they will send letters of recommendation to 2 colleges of your choice?

I got the letter and listed my two colleges, is there anyway to confirm that the foundation has actually sent these letters?

My D was notified last spring and designated 2 schools. One of them, Rice, recently sent her a letter of congratulations and gave her an application fee waiver. She hasn't heard anything from the other school, but I've no reason to doubt that NMSF sent notifications to designated schools.

There's every reason to think that NM sends the letters. If you designated colleges like Harvard or Yale, they are deluged with letters from students who designated them in the NM program, and it's not a big deal to them.

If you designated second tier college or colleges in the second half of the first tier, they may be delighted at the opportunity to snag a high scoring student, and may send you a response or perks like a free application.

Harvard replied many months ago, mentioning how they do, in fact, take into consideration NMSC's college-reporting service. They sent me supplementary materials about their biology programs since I had listed biological sciences as my prospective major on the PSATs.

Duke came yesterday. I'm sure not if it had anything to do with National Merit, but it was a huge packet (as opposed to most colleges' midget brochures), so iono, maybe this was the school's reponse to NMSC college reports.

My son had them sent to Purdue and U. of Arkansas. Haven't heard directly from either that they'd received them, but Purdue sends him something almost daily. I'm kinda surprized we don't hear as much from Arkansas as I thought we would (we're in Indiana) We've only heard from them 2 or 3 times and he's listed them as a choice on both SATs and the PSATs he's taken. Do they not want him???

We have received applications from both schools. Also from some of the ivies, MIT and Rose Hulman. And Olivet Nazarene called him and told him they're offering him a scholarship (I don't think so.)
