Does anyone know when the letters from the Nov. audition should be going out?
Thanks.

My D asks the same daily!

My S is a sophmore now (boy time flies) but I remember what a great Christmas he had that year. BTW his was just a thin single white envelope. His letter arrived December 23rd. I know it is tough and I could be wrong - but I wouldn't look for the letters until next week. This week is finals week and Juries are taking the time of the staff also.
Best of OOPs - I'm thinking of you!

Acting, my heart goes out to you, hang in there, something good WILL happen.

My D received an acceptance letter today for Theatre Performance.

What is the difference between "theater performance" and "musical theater?" Anyone know?

Theater performance is not part of the School of Music and they study with different faculty, if I understand correctly from my D.

As I understand it, its their BA instead of a BFA. Its offered from the Theatre Department, rather than the School of Music. It does include voice and dance, but not as much as the MT degree. I am not sure about the faculty.

My D auditioned for MT, but was offered entrance into the new BFA program for Acting. It also came with a scholarship, which was great. Anyone know about this program. It came from the Music Department.

Hi, I auditioned last year for MT and was offered Music and Theatre Performance. I chose to take theatre performance at OCU over vocal performance at FSU and am so glad I did. The difference is less required courses in Music/Dance with a high concentration in Theatre (but only 42 required courses) in comparison to MT (about 90 required courses). The studies in theatre are different: MT studies primarily meisner, as TP studies Stanislavski. As a TP major, you can still take as much voice and piano and dance as scheduling permits. This semester I have 2 credit of voice and two credits of dance. Please let me know if you have more questions about anything, even the school in general, athletic programs, student life, etc. I am so glad I chose OCU!

Let's see if I can clear anything up.

The theatre dept did just introduce a new BFA program which is a more intensive version of the BA in Theatre Performance that they had previously. Both degrees do include voice training and dance.

When students audition for MT they are also considered for other degrees at the same audition. This includes Vocal Performance (VP), BA in Music, or the BA/BFA in Acting. If a student is offered admission to the BA or BFA in theatre performance/acting they are receiving an offer from the dept. of theatre, not music. They are both housed in the Petree School of Performance Arts. The music department does offer a BA in Music to select students who audition for MT as well, which is a much less intense version of VP but this is not to be confused with the BA in Theatre; they are two very very different tracks offered by two different departments.

The voice faculty IS different than the faculty that MT and VP majors take from. The BA/BFA students take from an adjunct faculty. Some of these voice teachers range from grad students from other universities to more experienced professors from varied backgrounds. The adjunct faculty IS very good though - OCU only hires the best. They are not the famous senior faculty that the MT students have, however. There is a quality difference. It is possible for a BA/BFA to have one of the senior faculty, but that is very very rare, and can't be planned on. It basically entails lots of persistance, groveling and luck.

Since I'm on a roll.. :) OCU recently changed their policy that current students can only re-audition for MT once. (This means after they've already enrolled and begun classes at OCU) A prospective student who auditions in November (for example) and wants to reaudition in February can not, unless the voice faculty asked them to at their Nov audition.

Thanks for the information. It is very helpful.
