LGBT on Campus

I’ve been interested in Miami because it’s close to my fathers house, is a good medium size, seems to be a good fit for me in many ways… except I’ve been worried lately that the college isn’t LGBT friendly. As a gay person, it’s very important to me that the college I go to is accepting. I’m from the East Coast so I’m not used to anything other than a liberal majority.

How open minded are the students at Miami? Would I fit in? Please answer as honestly as you can, because this school was one of my top picks for a long time. If I found out that the environment isn’t welcoming, it’d be a deal breaker.

Miami would not be considered a particularly liberal school overall, but I’ve found the school to be generally accepting of LGBT. My strong suggestion is to contact the campus LGBT student office, talk to the administrators and ask to speak to some existing LGBT students to get the scoop. Not a ton of help, but I do know a LGBT student from my HS who went to Miami. He seems to be loving it.
