There are still quite a few steps after admission and some might seem confusing. I hope others add what they find as they go along, but I’m going to do some research on what can be done to be in the best position possible to transfer into UCI for fall 2016. I’ll try to compile some less known tricks and tips as well. I’ll be relaying my progress up till the term starts. Again please contribute what you can, the more information we can compile the better off we will all be.
Instructions on how to change your major from @LopApo, for those of you who might want to do so:
- Log into your portal.
- Click on Message Center.
- Click on Compose New Message.
- Select Change my Major.
- Choose the major you want to change it to from the list.
- Click on Send Message and wait for your counselor to get back to you. It takes 3-5 days.
Also, I’m currently in the process of trying to compile a list of classes I’ll need from UCI to get my BA using their website, catalogue, and other PDFs I’ve found through Googling “UC Irvine Psychology and Social Behavior 2-Year Plan.” I did the same thing for UCSB and it was easy as pie. UCI is making me feel like I’m pulling teeth. It gives a sample plan, but doesn’t exactly illustrate what it means by “electives.” Plus, even with all of the classes listed, that doesn’t get me up to 180 quarter units. With the 90 transferrable, it gets me 134 or something like that. (Figuring out what I need to do to graduate is helping me make a choice between UCI and UCSB tbh.) Anyone else doing the same?

Did anyone receive the admission package in mail?
@Veraaa Not yet actually. Know what’s included? Also do transfers generally get paired up for on campus housing in doubles? Not sure how exactly that’s going to work as of now.
@Rololo I got accepted two weeks ago and still received nothing in mail. So I wonder do they actually send it or not?? I am thinking about housing as well. If you are referring to the on campus housing, I think you can choose between single, double, and triple? I am interested in VDC, VDCN, CDS. They have different floor plans so you can look at their websites. I will also have a housing tour this Friday so I hope I can get to know more detail about that.
I’m a little disappointed with UCI so far. They’re telling me I have to wait until summer to change my major to cognitive science and they can’t gaurentee that I’ll be admitted into the program. I called admissions and they said to talk to the school of social sciences and when I called there they said to talk to admissions. While someone from the UCSD cognitive science program called me to say congratulations and ask if I had any questions. It’s also frustrating that UCI doesn’t have any welcome or orientation events between transfer acceptance days and the SIR deadline, while UCSD has triton day next Saturday and UCLA has their welcome event the week after that. I’m driving to UCI today to see if I can figure this out in person. I’m nervous to commit to there if I’m not confident I’ll get the major I want. I don’t understand why they force you to transfer as a psych major first.
I think choosing which school to go to is more stressful than waiting for the acceptances!
@CogSciRob My academic counselor let me know that there is a newly admitted UCI ceremony on May 13 and said that advisors from the social science school would be present. Perhaps you could go and press the issue a bit.
@CogSciRob I’m sure you’ll hear about this at Transfer Triton Day, but UCSD’s cogsci program is leagues better than most others.
I’m lookin into gettin apartments in UTC…average about $500 a month. Does anybody recommend any apartments? I need parking included too
Last year I received a standard UC Letter of acceptance in a small blue UCI envelope. You also get a small flag that says congrats with deadlines. I did get a scholarship letter a week after that provieed 4k and then 2k for my two years with guaranteed housing. Not sure about this yeat, it is somewhat behind. Tbh, if I had known how easy to switch majors I should jave left last year. 8-X
When should UCI be sendin out financial aid info?
@kamiture How long did it take after you were admitted to receive the letter? I need it in order to actually attend.
@Escapyst the portal said we’d get them early May and now it says shortly so maybe this week or next week.
Pretty sure it was no more than 3 weeks after updated on my admission. This year after the extension everything has lagged. Except SB, I haven’t received any other letter. Last year I had UCSD, UCI pretty early.
@centennial13 Hi where did you find out in the portal? I got accepted three weeks ago and still get nothing…
So here is what I’m wondering
When will financial aid be notifying students of their award status ?
I need to know that before I can SIR.
It’s between UCI and CSUF for me, CSUF is cheaper and also has a good reputation for my major, but UCI is closer and also has a good reputation for my major. I’m leaning towards UCI for sure, even if it costs more and will be more challenging with scheduling and all the other commitments I have going in life. I’m so grateful I was admitted though, was a dream come true. I’ve been working towards a UCI admission for the last 2 years and it worked out lol, I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way, cheers.
