Life After Admission: What to do and how to prep for an optimal fall 2016 transfer

@atlashoney ahh i see. that’s very true

Is anyone interested being a roommate? I checked out housing and it’s so expensive a a I was wondering it will be cool to get a roommate who is also a transfer student, Anyone interested?

Awesome I got my financial aid information, just SIRed. I’m an anteater ! It’s been a long road, 2 years actually and I’m in  Finally, it’s done.

I now just need to figure out about what to send them for my vaccinations. I don’t think there are records of shots I got back in 1985 when I was 2 for most of this stuff lol. I really hope I don’t have to get a ton of expensive shots. Anyone else in the midst of this one ? Also, anyone have a GED and not see any option to send that as a transcript ? The parking information I found said that parking was like $70 a month! that’s normally a whole semester at my CC, so that’s pricey and I bet it’s even harder to actually find a parking spot. What I’m thinking about doing is finding a place I can park my car and ride into UCI on public transportation… I might go that route and see how it is. Spending and hour or more trying to find a parking space is a nightmare I hate reliving over and over, and at my CC they sell more permits than there are spaces so it’s like the last few days of the term and it can still get packed to the brim and hard to find a space lol. So yep, I guess the parking situation is going to be similar. If anyone has any insight on this, or what kind of permit is best to get, like if that “preffered zone commuter” permit, if that’s really any easier to find a spot with or necessary… Here is a link to the parking rates http://www.parking.uci.edu/permits/rates.cfm

Have you guys actually been to UCI, the parking is basically non existent. Making permits as expensive as they are dissuades a good deal of people from buying them and thus there are more spots available for the people who actually buy it. Also supply and demand.Oh and all the nearby places only allow 2 hour parking before they’ll tow you. Personally I think I am going to live in like University Town Center or Turtle Rock and take a page out of the Isla Vista book and just bike everywhere.

@errorthirtyseven Yeah I have been to campus several times. Parking is minimal. Which is great to reduce students driving around campus. But for someone who won’t be living on campus, or anywhere near campus I have no option other than to pay the insane amount for the parking permits.

@BackNSchool83 I have a ged equivalent (cahsee) and messages them about it. They replaced high school transcripts with the cahsee request. Pretty simple!

@BackNSchool83

For your immunization records - call your high school, perhaps. I didnt have my baby shot records so I called them and they still had a copy of my old ones. I dunno how long youve been out of high school, but its worth a shot! Elementary through high school are required to have a complete immunization record for every student of theirs.

So Arroyo Vista does not have single rooms for transfer students? That is somewhat disappointing… I might just get an apartment then.

@atlashoney yeah I mean sure it sucks that it is so expensive but it is better than it being cheaper and everyone having one because then nobody would be able to find a space. If you get there before 8 apparently it is not too difficult to find a space but then you have to be at school before 8.

Does anyone know what do we have to do if we are planning on living on the ACC apartments? Do we just fill out the housing application @ the UCI website? OR do we have to submit a separate application?

Does anyone know if all the Assist certified classes transfer? I’m trying to figure out my transferable GPA because apparently one assist certified class doesn’t have a UC Area so I’m not sure what it is

@Bawwwww I believe your gpa doesn’t transfer, just the credits you earned in general. Don’t quote me on it, that’s what my counselor said before at least.

@LopApo so what im told is that the housing application will allow us to be assigned to a community - thats arroyo vista, or an apartment complex. Then after that we need to fill out others.

@ssm24k well on the conditions for acceptance it list a requirement of maintaining 3.4 overal transferable GPA. I just want to know what it currently is because if I take off the classes that aren’t listed on a UC area on the TAG website it can fall under 3.4 after this semester but I won’t know until I send transcripts at the end of this month

@Bawwwww You can ask a counselor at your school. Mine prints out my transcripts and at the bottom of the paper it tells me my UC GPA.

sorry for the off topic question, but does anyone know how to find/active your uci email address? i need to submit an advising exception form and need to provide my uci email in it and don’t know where i’m supposed to find it on my portal.

Go to assist and see if it’s UC transferable to calm your nerves. They only count UC transferable in your UC gpa. Hey in other news… I came across a few hurdles with uci admissions I’ve cleared and want to relay to the group. First, if you have a GED but they only requested high school transcripts you can order a ged transcript to be sent to uci, then message them in the message center, worked for me. Also vaccinations, if you don’t have records, your high school doesn’t have records cause you’re old like me, if you have a student health centers at your CC they might be able to do a test on you for a low cost, like 20 bucks to see if you need any immunization, so go on the UCI student health page, print the forms you need and bring it to the appointment at your CC student health center. You can get a lot done at my CC health center for cheap I recently found out including blood work and other tests, I did an ekg for like 20 bucks lol. If you don’t regularly see a doctor to complete your medical history, you can fill out this stuff with a nurse at UCI. g23nov, I activated mine by searching for uci student email, it told me it was a google account and lead me to that page, then set it up, but it’s only going to let you do so after you SIR. Just google search uci student email, click on the link that says getting started with email for students. Then click on the set up uci Google password link and take it from there. I didn’t have any emails waiting for me. There is a big uci group on Facebook and different majors have their own pages, and with a uci email you can join them and maybe get some questions answered and do some networking, FYI.

Is anyone applying for financial aid for the summer session? I need help because I keep getting different answers from the office of financial aid.

I am, Atlas. Whats up?

@Escapyst Well I applied for financial aid for summer online, in the Myaid thing. And it says that my file is under review. But when I called yesterday the lady told me that I have to go in person to turn in an application. But that doesn’t sound right. She also told me that I can’t get any financial aid because it’s passed the deadline.
