Life as a college student

Hello, I'm new here.
I want to ask people about their opinion.
I just graduated high school and I am about to enroll college on September. It's De Anza College in Cupertino, California. I have never been to California before. Can anybody tell me a bit about the location around De Amza College? How is the weather? What season is on what month?
How about the social life? The environmet?
I am also looking for a place to live. Can somebody give me a bit info about it?
Thx a lot...

(sorry for my not-so good English)

It's a pretty spanish-style campus in a well-to-do suburban area. The area is pretty, but very densely populated, and not terribly exciting, but close enough to San Jose to the south or San Francisco to the north to go there fairly often. (There is public transportation, but it would be difficult to live in these suburbs without a car.) You can also go to the beach in Santa Cruz, or hike/mountain bike in the nearby hills/mountains. The weather is warm (80s, 90Fs in the summer) to mild (50Fish ) in the winter, when it tends to rain. As with most junior colleges, the student body is very mixed: everything from local kids who just graduated from high school, to older students getting their degree while working/retraining to people taking classes just for for fun. It's a "commuter" campus, meaning most students don't live on/near the campus, they drive in from nearby areas. For social life you'll probably head to San Jose or San Francisco. Don't forget drinking age in the US is 21 and if you're less than that, your ability to go to clubs will be limited. Cupertino is home to Apple computer, and is right in the heart of Silicon Valley, many of the people who live there are upscale, educated high-tech types, and many internationals.

You should post this in the main forum for the school or something (is there any?), so you can get more answers..

Are you transferring later to Berkeley?
I already got into UCLA for this Fall but I might not be able to afford it, and I always wanted to go to Cal, so I might go to a CC near Cal then transfer.
I know it's already too late to enroll for Fall classes, so I would have to go during Winter and attend Summer classes to make up for it. Would that be a good idea?

katliamom, thx for the information..so u mean, the cost of living in Cupertino is high?

lisieux, i don't know about the main forum. What's the different if I post it here? I don't reallh know yet bout it. Can u gie me any info since I'm new here. =)

jiceo1, I haven't decided about it yet. Actually I want to have communication as my major. But I'm still confused with accounting. People say, including my parents, that accounting would be a wiser choice for the future career. So if accounting is my final decision, so yes,it's a big possibility that I will continue in Berkeley. Winter is on January, am I right? Fall is on September? I think it's a wise desicion to enter a CC first to save money. I know how expensive the fee is. So if you take the class on winter, I think there's no problem about it. I'm thinking about taking the same step also. Because, for now, I want to spend my last days with my home mates here since I won't be going home to my country for a long time.

What season is now in California?

Summer. Like everywhere else in North America.

PS. Ever hear of google? ;)

Yeah, but what's wrong with just ask straight forward? And FYI, i got this website by google.

Plus, I thought it's Fall..My friends say it's fall.

Your friends are wrong. It's summer. And google makes you seem more self reliant. Good quality in an international student :)

hi happy.star
i'm just curious, but where are you from?

I'm from Indonesia..

Katliamom, i c...Beacause on september I will enroll for fall quarter, so I thought it is fall already. Thx for the info..

First official day of fall, this year, is September 22nd. August is still considered summer.

thank you very much

are u a student in De Anza College?

No. But I lived near De Anza, and took some classes there -- many years ago, and have friends who taught there.
