I recently visited georgia state, an i gotta say, i loved it. I love the whole urban vibe, but the one thing i didn't like was that there was virtually no green space around the dorms. It looks like it'd have to go to a nearby park if me and my boys wanted to play a quick game of football or something. On the other hand, i did like the way the dorms looked on the cafeteria food was amazing! It was alot better than the food i got at emory. Now, i'm a kid straight from the suburbs, and i'm wondering how many of you current GSU kids go used to city life? How safe is it out there at night? How's the party scene at GSU?

There are a lot of night clubs and nice tasty restaurants around campus. If you go to the right clubs at the right night, you’ll see celebrities. Lenox mall is a couple minutes away. You probably will not be able to afford anything from their Rolex stores or Dior retailers but It’s fun to window shop. I ran into Usher a while back there. As for parks, Piedmont park is a huge green area. There is also the Olympic Centennial Park. Occasionally there are free concerts, and free things being sold there.

The school is always having events. If you keep your ears open, then you will hear about them. They shut down Six Flags for a whole day and open it only for GSU students. It’s pretty cool and the lines are short. House parties aren’t practical here since everyone is living in an apartment. You will find that a lot of students itching for house parties go to Georgia Tech, Spelman and Clark to party. I would not recommend getting a car though because it will make your life a living nightmare, you will be frequently late for class and you will end up not using it.

There are a lot of variety of races that go here. There are a lot of beautiful girls and model guys. There are also a lot of ratchet and ugly men and women. The school has quite a couple of sugar babies (Girls who ‘date’ with rich men for money). Just like every school there are always some ignorant folks and creepy folks. If you go here be prepared to get self control because you may spend all your money in the city (It is very easy! There is always so much to do) Also if you are a racist or are homophobic, this is not the right school for you. There is a huge diverse student body and a lot of homosexuals here as well.

most of the people who complain about Georgia State not being a ‘good’ school are mostly shy/antisocial kids. This school is a net workers dream. There are so many opportunities for internships. The only thing is that YOU have to be willing to talk to the right people. I know people who got jobs at CNN while at college. Other people have gotten internships at fortune 500 companies. In the law school, a lot of the professors are practicing lawyers so if you impress them enough it is very likely they will offer you an internship or job in their firm or refer you to someone else. I know a few people who after they got law degrees form Emory they still haven’t been able to get jobs! Networking is important where ever you go!!

Hurdgirl, do you currently attend GSU? Would you mind if i private messaged you about more information on the school?

Sure go ahead and I do currently attend the school.

Alright thank you, i messages you!

Kinda late notice but I am transferring to georgia state in the spring and was wondering if you ended up going there?

HurdGirl could I message you too lol I could use some insight information!

It’s a good school academically for math/science majors, but the school makes a point to recruit and admit at-risk students and first generation college students. That makes the atmosphere on campus not feel very “academic.” Also, black culture is dominate on campus, so almost all of the activities like concerts, homecoming, and Panther Prowl Nights are aimed towards black students with dj’s from Atlanta hip-hop stations, rap artists and ads for black parties. I guess in the end that’s why all the white kids transfer to Tech or UGA, so they can experience the same thing, just in reverse.
