VCC…I’ve never seen anyone on CC post that they received a likely and then post later that they were denied acceptance. I’m not saying it’s not impossible, but I would go so far as to say it’s probably highly unlikely that candidates receiving LL would be rejected.

UVAorBust…Again remember, LL does NOT mean rejection – “it ain’t over 'till it’s over,” and IT AIN’T OVER! IF April 1st you find a disappointing result, I want you to promise that you will try and seek comfort in knowing that BC and UMich have accepted you, and they are both GREAT schools! UVA might just pan out for you, and if so, fabulous! However, if it doesn’t, you’ve got some great choices, and who knows…some of your other RD schools might come through as well (Penn, GU, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, etc.). My D never really thought she’d end up attending UVA, but we now realize it’s been a good fit. Don’t forget, Darden is always an option in four years as well! Keep up the faith! :D

Thanks jc40. Way to go with the LL by the way! Seeing people’s stats, I’m just amazed at some applicants. I was excited with my trivial 33, and some of these applicants are walking around with 35’s :D

So, I’m thinking I might have gotten one? I got a letter from UVA today saying they reviewed my application and found it impressive and please give serious consideration to UVA. Is this the letter? I really really hope it is >.< But I just can’t think I actually got one >.<

You’re right…the stats are amazing! When D received hers last year, she was honored. (Once our family realized what it was that is !) Some kids who get LLs will NOT get asked to be a part of Echols/Rodman and similarly, some kids who did NOT receive LL will. The process for choosing Echols/Rodman has a subjective element, so for those who don’t get asked please remember that you can apply in the spring of your first year; the school accepts a little over 1/3 of all first year applicants:

My DD wasn’t expecting a LL, just hoping. She’s not letting herself pick favorites until she knows who wants her. this is my third kid and in our family, it seems the early “love” has some influence. Maybe because they start to imagine being there.

A friend who attends UVA is home on break and I was hoping she could let herself get excited and chat him up about his experience. She also knows someone from track who will be attending next year.

I was honored when I discovered that I had received a Likely Letter as well. My statistics are mediocre at best, and I have no hook, so I did not expect one.
I know that some people have already asked this question, but is a Likely Letter a guarantee of admission? I found a thread from last year in which several people who claimed to receive LL’s were complaining about being waitlisted. Why would the school identify an individual as a top student, and then refuse to admit him?

GeneralAdmission - I think you’re looking into this to much (and I completely understand why). If Dean J says it was sent to all applicants, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. What would she gain by lying to us? Also, a number of people who received LL’s also said they received the email.

It was a broadcast email.
It was a broadcast email.
It was a broadcast email.

Seriously, it was a broadcast email. I promise! :)

I bet all alumni parents at that other school got that letter. Some just happened to have students who weren’t admitted. Those whose students were admitted probably didn’t think twice about the letter they had gotten a few weeks prior. I used to travel with one of their Associate Deans. I’ll ask him when I see him in September.

Ahhhhh thank you! I’m so happy!!! >.< All I’ve been thinking for the last hour is "They like me they like me they like me they like me they like me- they realllyyy like me! " lol

And as for the email, I got it too. To me it just seemed like any other normal update email

We are “out of state” and got the letter today. We used to live in Cville and our youngest was born there. It is SO MUCH nicer of a campus than our current state school, and it is a great school. Of course our state school already offered the full ride, but we are so excited for this option, and MAYBE just get some money???
Does anybody know about merit for out of staters? Chances for Jefferson? Stats for Jefferson? Just very curious.

I thought the Jefferson scholarship for this year’s applicants had already been given out? Not sure, but thats just what I thought. I think that the last winner however was an out-of-stater.

For me, the likely letters can be compared to a lottery ticket. When you buy the ticket, you think, “what if”. There is a small, almost non-existant chance you will win the lottery and be worry free. However, when the numbers are being drawn you realize you lost. Of course, you didn’t expect to win, but the idea of winning is so appealing. The idea of receiving a likely letter is very appealing, but the chances of it happening are almost non-existant.

Fortunately, if you don’t receive the letter, you still have a chance, unlike with the lottery :D

Do they give out the jeffersons before the regular admissions decisions? If so, I guess we don’t have any hope.
Well, it is a rollercoaster ride!
