Likely Letter!

Congrats everyone. My DD will be disappointed when she gets home to find she got the email (that everyone gets) and not the likely letter. Oh well. Disappointing day all around. Awoke to snow and wind. Spring can’t get here soon enough.

I’m not involved with those broadcast messages, but I believe it went to all students who applied. The Dean usually sends a “check in” email around this time. We realize that other schools have been sending brochures and emails all along and we have to give you an update about the process.

Rememeber that the vast majority of the applicant pool probably doesn’t read my blog or frequent College Confidential. Many haven’t heard from us since we sent the last deadline reminder email in December.

OOS in GA, D received the likely letter this afternoon… I thought it was junk mail and opened it. She will not be happy with me when she gets home.

Just got home and got mine as well! So excited! Congrats to everyone else who got one and good luck to those too scared to check the mail!

actually UVA’s been the only school that sent a “check in” e-mail to me; nice to be kept in the loop though :)

By the way, congrats MyPageWontLoad!

I hope this isn’t the case. I really tried to make it clear that no one should expect a Likely Letter. Unfortunately, I think seeing people check in on College Confidential with their news gives the illusion that these are common. They are not.

Remember that the vast majority if students at UVa right now never received one of these letters. There is no reason to be sad right now. My colleagues and I are still reading applications. As I write this, only a few of us have actually left the office for the day and those who have left will be working tonight from home. There is still much work to be done!

Thanks, Dean J. On the blog you mentioned that there will be two waves of likely letters…has the second wave gone out too? I am trying not to get discouraged, but it is hard waiting.

Dean J, its hard not to feel somewhat rejected when all your friends have these letters, and you’re the odd man out. however “uncommon” these letters are, what are the odds that 5/7 friends that applied got these letters?

Wow, so jealous of all of you who have received likely letters!!!
I was not expecting anything, only fiercely wishing =/
But congrats that’s a great sign!! =)))

Sigh, rushed home to find my mailbox dryer than the Sahara desert… Then I check my email and see a message from UVA, all just to be disappointed again. I definitely am not expecting a LL, but the idea of receiving one is great :D.

almualim, you must hang out with a smart bunch :o.

Just to cheer up anyone who is dissapointed -

I was in a peculiar position with my friends. I had the highest rank out of all of them, but my SAT was also the lowest. But yeah, my friends are very bright and are definitely uva material.

jws almualim are you in state?

^^^^^^ yep, central va.

i got my LL in the mail today!

i know they say ‘‘likely’’…but what are the chances of getting in/not getting in after getting the LL?

^^^^ I’d assume greater than the 34% acceptance rate.

I actually taped a garbage bag to the inside of my front door so when all of the mail came through the slot I would grab the bag and run upstairs to avoid my parents seeing my reaction, for the good or bad. After sorting through everything, I was left with one letter that looked like it could be THE LL from the back of it. Turned it over to see it was Binghamton :frowning: Got invited to their scholars program so thats a nice consolation prize I guess lol.

My DS received the love letter today. We are in N. VA. He was very pleased! He was home sick today, so it was a nice pick-me-up for him! :)

would that be close to a guarantee? i dont want to be too confident tho.

What does the first D stand for in DS and DD?

theman44 - dear. I’m not sure why they put that either to be honest.
