My d received same letter…

I got the likely too…but there’s no way they sent it to every urm and female engineer, correct? This is just the most qualified group?

Does Dyson send out liklies?

@barvoets

I got the same letter from HumEc. I don’t think HumEc sends out likely letters, I’ve looked everywhere online and I haven’t heard of anyone getting a likely letter from HumEc. So I guess this teaser is all we get
Best of luck!

@13tt44

Hopefully it’s a good sign that we got that letter though! I know that not all the applicants got one, so I’m still holding out hope hah. We’ll see soon enough, I guess.

They only sent out these likely emails so you can plan your trips ahead. For example, I received one from CoE followed with an invitation to attend the 2 days program for Women in Engineering thing. But different colleges will do different things.

@rahrahxx- No! Don’t worry. No likely letter is not equal to a rejection. Most accepted students don’t get likelies. <<That’s from the webpages of almost every college that sends out likelies. Likely letters are sort of unpredictable because not every application is thoroughly reviewed before sending them out.

I am a recruited athlete who received a likely letter. Here is what it said:
“I am writing to let you know that the selection committee has completed its review of your application for admission to the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University. Although the Ivy League member insitutions will not officially notify Regular Decision applicants of their decision until the end of March, it may help you with your planning to know that you will very likely be admitted to Cornell University. It is quite out of the ordinary for us to mail a letter such as this to a Human Ecology applicant; however, we have decided to send this letter to a small number of recruited athletes.”

hmm bigjiv so you think you only got this because you’re a recruited athlete? I applied to che but didn’t get a likely…

@barvoets: bigjiv’s letter says

“however, we have decided to send this letter to a small number of recruited athletes.”

Seems the answer to your question is right there. Congrats bigjiv. Good luck w/your eventual decision

When my D applied a few years ago – in addition to recruited athletes, some URMs and some female engineering students received them. They read almost exactly as above, as I remember.

Not receiving one does not mean you didn’t get in. Many (in fact most) of the admitted female engineers received the admissions notice at the normal time.

Is anyone who received a likely letter from the College of Engineering NOT either a) a female, b) a college minority?

(e.g. any Asian males out there with likelies from CoE?)

Yes, my friend got the likely email on 15th March. He is from Bangladesh and the letter is from CoE and he is a male.
Thanks.

2 girls at my school got likely letters for engineering and I’m also a girl didn’t get a letter :(.
kind of a harsh way to let someone know they didn’t get in by their friends talking about likely letters…

@Ansemheart don’t get discouraged! The fact that you didn’t receive a likely letter doesn’t mean you won’t be accepted! Zephyr even said a few posts up^ that most female engineers receive their decision notifications at the regular times anyway.

I got this same letter and I was accepted!

Wooot, so was I!

Likely Letter:

I am writing to let you know how much the Cornell Engineering Admissions Committee enjoyed reading your application. Your academic and personal achievements are outstanding and, although the Ivy League schools wont notify students of their admission decisions until the end of the month, it may help with your planning to know that you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell.

During the next few weeks, you will narrow your list of possible college choices to the one school you think is best for you. I hope this advance notice of your likely admission to Cornell will encourage you to learn more about this great institution.

Any likely letters for class 2018?

My Ivy alma mater has started sending them… a recruited athlete in my area who has responded by formally committing to my college.
