They sent me some mail saying that I was missing my teacher rec, and then I checked on-line and they had it, so I should trust the website, right? Also, this could be a reason why I didn't get a "likely" letter?

I have 2120 SAT and 32 ACT, school doesnt rank, but would probably be valedictorian, like 3.99 UW with 7 APs and all honors, and coached 6th grade basketball team to 2nd place in city tournament (out of 26 teams).

So, the missing teacher rec may have caused no "likely" letter?

I submitted my app in October. It sounds to me like people are getting letters at different times, because it looks as if the earliest people got them at the very beginning of December and then others got them mid-December. Are you instate or out of state? I'm guessing they send out fewer to out of state maybe since it's pretty competitive.

No likely letter for S. He applied to UNC-CH because of a particularly strong program it offers and figured it can't hurt to apply for a Robertson. Not receiving a "likely letter" might have caused him some stress if he had not been admitted EA at Georgetown.

so the majority consesus says that likely letter = most probable acceptance, but would it be pushing the envelope to guess that since a vast majority of acceptances go to kids w/o the letters as well, the ones who got the letter are candidates for scholarship?

i'm betting not, but i wouldn't mind having my hopes raised :)

@iomr: I'm not entirely sure that $ notification comes along with acceptance/rejection; morehead ppl might be notified if semi's or something on jan 2nd, but other than that, I don't know. Anybody know for certain?

In my case, which is admittedly not the norm, I got a likely letter after being told I was a semifinalist for a scholarship. (I am a current student.)

So those of you who didn't get a likely letter, don't stress too much. Getting a likely letter is a sign you are almost certainly in. But not getting one doesn't mean much of anything, because there are so many reasons why they might not send a letter. And there still could be one on it's way :)

Has anyone who got a likely letter been legacies? I got a letter from Stephen Farmer because I am a legacy but don't think that is a likely letter.

I just got my likely letter today and its from Stephen Farmer. It says " i write to thank you for your distinguished application to UNC CH. ... We have already been impressed by your achievements and your potential" That IS a likely letter i assume? /heels- was yours strictly regarding legacy?

collegeboy422, your post made me go check my mailbox, just on the off chance there might be something there...and amazingly enough, I got a likely letter today as well! I was so sure it was too late to get one. Mine says the same thing :)

Yay, it looks like I also got one. I got it a week or two ago but remember thinking it was just a "generic" letter they give out to everyone who applies. Guess I was wrong (!).
