Likely Letter

do you think they will trickle in until friday or are all of them already sent?

Some people are still getting them on diff threads – soo keep stalking the mailman :P

I posted on another thread- S also received his today… postmarked 3/22 received 3/25

I bet if you don’t get a likely letter tomorrow or Saturday, you’re toast. I suspect they sent likely letters to all of the people who got accepted given it is so late in the game. Given their selectivity, they will try to make every accepted student feel “special”

So they sent likelies out to around 2k people?

^i hope you are wrong. :(

No HYPSMIT. That would be half of the accepted students and that seems incredibly unlikely.

i hope not… coz i havent received anything.

@motion12345

I believe HYPSMIT was trying to satirize the statement bostonvillanova made that all accepted students received the likely letter.

However, I’m no mind reader

So these last likelies aren’t just URM people anymore right?

Is this normal to send a likely letter five days before decision day? You would think you send a likely letter weeks prior to the decision to take the anxiety away. Makes me think they spent some postage and sent out a lot of likely letters.

I don’t know why Duke would do that though. Unless it’s their attempt to ensure that they get a high acceptance percentage this year.

But then again, I don’t think they would mail all 2K. Cause then FARRR more people on CC would have gotten one.

I guess we’ll just have to see on Monday! :)

OK Random question…ok maybe not so random!! Do international applicant’s ever get a likely letter???

Just got off the phone with Duke. Likely letters go out to the cream of the crop.

Thank you wondermom! @bostonvilla, ofcourse they didnt do that! I was trying to be facetious  And no, they didn’t just go to URMs…I’m definitely not one and i received a letter.

yea i want to know toooo

not gonna lie I’m a little confused. I got one of the duke likelies dated 3/22 (not too shabby, eh?) but was confused as to why it came so late for a likely. a litle bit of interweb snooping also reveals that in past years duke would pay travel expenses for likely recipients to visit the campus and make it a totally free trip. clearly, this isn’t the case with this batch of likelies. did duke cut this program this year due to the economy, or were there two rounds of likelies: an earlier, definitely likely with free trip, and this later group of what I could call “sub-likelies,” sans free trip?

any insight?

thanks,
ek

edit: this is assuming this batch didn’t go out to all accepted candidates which doesn’t seem likely but has been postulated.

My S also received a likely letter. The letter stated that he was invited to “a special welcome reception for particularly outstanding students” during the Duke Blue Devil Days. This gave me the impression that the letters were not sent to every accepted student.

I also read on threads from past years (as others have mentioned too) that Duke did do away with the free trip for likely students precisely because of the condition of the economy.

My non-URM D also received the letter described by OP, dated March 22nd. The funny part is that she saw the thin envelope and assumed it was a rejection, so it was particularly gratifying to read it!

It also had an invitation to the special event during Blue Devil days, but no offer of travel money.

Good luck to all of you who are waiting for your decisions!

Did the students who received Likely letters also get invited to Robertson Scholars weekend?
