Likely Letters?

Last year, likely letters were sent out on February 28th:

The video from that site is sourced from Vimeo. It looks like an external company put it together for the University.

If you just search for something along the lines of “University of Pennsylvania 2018 Vimeo” on Google, you should pull up a link from an employee of said company that released the video on February 6th.

I wonder if the University was fine with that…?

@45 Percenter,

Some people report getting them as early as February 14th. Whether such tales are merely apocryphal, I’m not quite sure…

Finally, (assuming that we accept the date February 14th as the earliest letters started to be sent out via email), the 14th fell on a Friday. Considering that I doubt that admissions works (even to merely send letters) on Saturdays, I would believe that the letters would either be sent out starting the 13th (this Friday), or the 17th (next Tuesday, since Monday is President’s Day/Washington’s Birthday).

I’m more inclined to believe that they would likely start rolling out on the 13th, if they will be arriving in the near future.

^ Yep, you’re right–it appears that they came out on a rolling basis last year (and I even posted a link to the likely letter video in that thread on February 18th! :)).

Last year they started on the coming Friday (in 2 days). They were on a rolling basis.

Will they be emailed to us? Or should we log into the portal?

@airspirit,

They’ll probably be emailed. It shouldn’t take that much time to check the portal as well, just in case.

Or, you could always wait for the mailed letter…

Or the phone calls from people trying to sell you on attending.

@airspirit: the best of the best might get a likely letter. If I recall your profile, you were viable but I don’t think you should be pining away for a LL, to be frank.

Literally NO ONE should be sitting around waiting for a Likely Letter unless you’re a recruited athlete. It’s utter foolishness and you should remove it from your thinking.

There’s a part of me that’s hoping for one, despite knowing how unlikely it is for any Wharton applicant to receive one (without leading a multi-million dollar charity that coordinates relief efforts across multiple African countries).

I’ve always been curious as to what the criteria for an “academic” likely is, considering that stats are not that impressive when considering the broad range of applicants.

Are they based on weighty awards? Very significant ECs? Winning ISEF?

LOL - everybody’s hoping for a LL, but honestly I’d be ecstatic with an acceptance March 31st ;D
Just really hoping for a KWH email because that would literally be my only sorta hook on a completely pleb application. Sometimes I regret not applying ED.
EDIT: Out of curiosity from what @T26E4‌ said, I checked your stats @airspirit‌ and am sorry to completely agree with what he said. A 31 on the ACT and being Chinese (which I am too and have a similar prob as you so I can relate) definitely is not good. But maybe you altered your stats to the lower side for chance me’s. Also, I didn’t read all your posts, but if you didn’t get in Cornell ED you shouldn’t be expecting a LL from Penn. Nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck!

@Tiberium‌ @T26E4‌ Alright thanks. Yeah, I’m not even expecting an acceptance tbh, nonetheless a LL. I just wanted to be aware.

@lanie49 Haha thanks. Yeah, my self-esteem goes way down after looking on CC.

If precedence holds, the first notification we should get about likely letters coming out should either come from the Twitter accounts of either UPenn Admissions or Dean Furda.

Does anyone know what time the email came out last year?

My friend just received a likely letter, but I would also like to remind everyone that waiting for one is futile.

Just received one today as well. Super excited!!

Now the difficult choice is whether I should still pursue a full ride at my school school or not…

My boyfriend got an LL today. My heart almost stopped and then he told me it was for athletics.

Congrats all!
