While Princeton has not previously given likely letters to non athletes, and has felt in the past that likely letters are not needed given that they have early decision, I read that Princeton is thinking about going in the direction of giving them to attract certain students, ie. those with exceptional artistic talent ect. Does anyone think they might start giving likely letters this year, or would they wait until next year when they do away with early decision?

where did you hear that?

I want one.

Great concept! I think that it would be a good move on Princeton's part. Just psychologically speaking, a student who receives a likely letter from Princeton may feel more connected to the school because they cared to send that early letter, and this could edge out other schools who notify in early April. I hope they do it.

Did I mention that I want one?

nope ;)
what was that you wanted again?

I actually asked an admissions officer just 3 weeks ago, and he said that Princeton is not opposed to using it this year during RD, but its probably unlikely. However, he did mention that they are considering sending them next year because ED will no longer be in place.

ungst, you are hysterical. I sincerely hope you get one. Please let us know.

Joel(I mean ungst), Princeton could use a man like you.
Risky Business(circa '83,'84,'85?)
Hope you get the letter!! No pimping dude.

Don't worry. You will know if I get one.

Thanks!!! It would make my decade at least!

I read it in an article that Princeton published. It does seem to suggets that they are thinking of doing it in the future to attract students with exceptional artistic talent ect. Princeton says they have not needed to use them because they have early decision. That does not make sense. Early decision applicants are those who pick Princeton as their first choice. The purpose of likely letters to non athletes is to try to encourage someone to attend Princeton who might be thinking of another school. The likely letter serves to let them know how much Princeton is interested in them and encourage them to choose Princeton over another school they get accepted to.

ungst and others want the letter this year.

I'm a recruited ahtlete and I got a likely letter from Princeton last week.

Wow Congratulations! That's incredible :)

I really hope they send some out for their other RD applicants as well.

what did the letter say? do you mind posting?

It said something to the effect of "as long as you maintain the level of acedmics and athletics that you have up to this point, you should expect to recieve a formal acceptance letter in April."

I'd be nervous if they sent likely letters to students with "exceptional artistic talent"... I sent a photography supplement (you can see it under "cameliasinensis's homepage" if you click on my username) but I doubt it's good enough for a likely, and then I'd worry about not being Good Enough, and that would just make waiting even more painful than it already is.

^^^ those are some great pics, cam!:)

Thanks! :)

if you look on the darmouth fourm, it actually began to talk about pton likely letters as well....and they do send them, but only to athletes right now. however, they may start to use them when they get rid of ED. so if youre not a recruited athlete, dont worry about it
