Likely Letters?

I got an incredibly suspicious letter from M&T about 2 weeks before decisions went out back in 2005. It didn't say likely on it, but it advertised the program like crazy. Got admitted.

Got a likely letter from Columbia.

Seems Penn may have sent out quite a few likely letters this year. I know they've been doing this at grad-school level admissions, and this may be a movement by the administration to get around ivy-wide date agreements. They feel that if they can send out admission earlier, they'll boost yield.

stats:

2230 sat i, ok subject tests, skipped the autobiographical essay. i'm not sure why i actually applied to penn, except that i used to live near philly and wanted the number of applications to be an even number. my ECs are not especially outstanding, but i'm bilingual, have moved around a bit, have taken a lot of my education into my own hands because my school isn't great, ... yeah. i'm surprised tbqh. i hope everyone else here does well when the decisions come out on the 31st :)
