Likely program

Booklady, thanks for the response. I think I would feel the same way. As a parent, you want your kids to feel comfortable at their school, not calling asking if you can come home and transfer to a closer school. I have heard lots of those stories, and I am sure the parents felt horribly. But it does seem like these Yale students love their school.

I received a call about a week ago and a letter today - I'm a Yale likely!!

TheSouthpaw16, wow, congratulations! I have to say that this is a very good strategic move on Yale's part. For many students who get these letters, the fact that Yale reached out early like this, might make a difference in how attached they feel to the school. Just my opinion. Other schools should follow suit if they aren't already.
The Southpaw16, can you tell us what you think made you stand out? Also, do you think the likely letter will make a difference in your ultimate decision? thanks

I received a call last week but no letter yet. Has yale changed its mind? :(

I think it was a combination of things that made me stand out, not one single thing. (Note: I don't mean to boast here, I'm just speculating on what made them choose me.) First, I have a lot of awards in music at both the national and international level. Second, my grades are great and our school has an excellent reputation for a public school. Finally, and this is what the person who called me said, my essay was really effective. It showed passion for what I love while at the same time making clear my accomplishments and interests.

The likely letter will definitely make a difference in my decision, though at this point I can't say what I will do, given that I was accepted Early at Harvard as well.

Yale's early decision apps. were down 15%. How is the RD app. count compared to last year?

I'm late to this party, but yes, plenty of schools send clear admit/likely letters. and they are not all sent at the same time to all candidates. I am a non athlete, and i've gotten two letters at very different times than other kids getting them from the same schools. anecdotally, these are not sent in bunches. they appear to be sent when your file is complete, read, and approved. in one case, one of the schools had lost my transcript, so i just got the letter a few days ago, well after others on this site. good luck.

Illininut, was Yale one of the schools you rec'ed the letter from?

Southpaw and Rbtrix, congrats again. It must be a great feeling to be contacted by Yale.

I second Garrity's question

I got a an e-mail saying that on 2/2/07, how they have reviewed my application and best wishes for admittance??? Back in december , I got a conformation letter stating that they have received everything. I am not sure what it means?? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone post an example? Thanks.

whyivy - I just think those are just confirmation e-mails. I got both of those also.

Wee, I just got a call from the regional officer - "As long as you don't flunk a course, you'll be admitted to Yale" :D And I'm not recruited, national-ranked-yada-yada or anything (you can check my past Chances threads)! However, the officer already knew that I got accepted early to 3 schools already (I had told my interviewer), so it was odd that they'd want to take a chance with me.

If i told the person who called me that I had been deferred at an Early Decision program at another school, would that have made them decide NOT to send me the likely letter? They called me last Thursday to tell me they were sending me a likely letter, but I haven't received one yet! I got some other likely letters, but I really like Yale too! Anyone got some input?

RBTrix, I think other posters have said that they received the letter about a week later. So, you are probably fine. I really doubt Yale would call you and then not send out the letter. You could always call admissions after the weekend just to be sure. What other schools did you get early acceptances to?

hey! i got a letter about a week back and i was pretty excited for the whole week basically, hehe. now, i'm thinking whether harvard or yale. i heard yale is much more undergrad focused, but i don't know... i have to go visit.

what are you other 'likelies' considering for which college to pick?

...... I want one........ Anything....... This waiting is terrible....

I think we should start a petition for ungst that he can get a likely letter.

hahaha!! I need to get in somewhere I want to go. My app got screwed to my match school that I really like which delayed my decision possibly 2 months.... so I'm just waiting....and waiting....

TheSouthpaw16: "The likely letter will definitely make a difference in my decision, though at this point I can't say what I will do, given that I was accepted Early at Harvard as well."

Nice! That's precisely my situation. Got a call last week and a letter two days ago. The admissions officer said the same thing, along the lines of "if you don't fail, you're in". Were you also offered admission into the Directed Studies program? I'm not sure if I want to take it, though. And I'm still undecided between Harvard (accepted EA) / Yale / Princeton (haven't heard back from the last). Tough choice, but a good one.
