I like listening to something that has good rhythm and is energetic but doesn't distract me. Usually melodic death or progressive metal works really well, but I also will listen to some older rap or repetitive electronic music when the mood strikes me. On occasion I'll listen to classical too, usually symphonies or opera, normally very dramatic and emotional pieces.

How often do you listen to music while studying and what type do you listen to? Do you think it helps?

I can only do it if it isn’t U.S History for some reason, lol. And M83, hands down, has to be the best studying music ever, oh, and House music too.

I can’t listen to music with words while doing any homework that requires memorizing something (History/bio stuff). When I’m doing math or physics/chem hw it really doesn’t matter.

I avoid lyrical music when I’m trying to memorize things, but yeah, I do usually listen to some form of music while doing homework. I work okay with music with lyrics unless it’s a really blatantly catchy song, but I prefer instrumental music. My favorite band for homework is Explosions in the Sky it’s really good post-rock. I get distracted MUCH easier without music. It tends to keep my thoughts from wandering.

For me it depends on the type of homework/studying.
Anything math-related goes well with music, but if I’m doing any kind of critical reading (English, history) it just distracts me.
I like to listen to random piano covers of songs. It’s less distracting than music with words and it improves my horrible piano playing.

Before this year, I never listened to music while studying/doing homework because I would always get caught up in it and wind up sitting at my desk dancing in my chair… but this year, it’s a lot easier. I found out that if I listen to something slow or calming, like Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop, I can focus. If all else fails, I pop in my Zelda soundtrack and let it roll works very well since it has no lyrics in it.

Lol same, I can’t listen to music unless I’m doing math. I can listen to any kind of music then lol, like kpop or Lana del Rey. But I do listen to Bach/Debussy/soothing music occasionally when it’s super quiet in the library when I’m doing other subjects.

I have to listen to Symphony no 9 by Dvorak when I’m writing my English essays. Otherwise, it just doesn’t happen. Four Seasons is okay, but my essays never turn out as good as those that I write when listening to Symphony no 9

I listen to Mozart when I study on the bus. If I listen to anything with words I get distracted. I like the whole “Mozart effect” thing even if it’s really not true- at least that way I can argue about the injustice of my test scores because hey, I studied to Mozart! I should have gotten a 100!
