Live Close to Everything or Have A/C?

From personal experience, would you rather live in a dorm that is not air conditioned, but close to all of your friends or live in an honors dorm that has air conditioning but is about 10 minutes further away from all of your friends and all of the sports stadiums? The reason that I ask is that I have to choose between the two. I am going to IU next year and I may have the choice of either living in Wright residence hall (the centrally located dorm) or Forest dorm (which would be where I would live for honors). So if you were given the choice, which do you think is more important: air conditioning in Bloomington, Indiana or proximity to friends?

Thanks

A/C, please.

It’s not like it’s a 30 minute drive.

any other thoughts? I am leaning towards the ac as well

I would live where there is an A/C. Living anywhere without one is no fun.

A/C. Why would you want to suffer just to be a little closer to your friends?

My best friend lived across campus almost a mile away and we walked back and forth to each other’s dorm all year. It’s no big deal.

I’d live close to my friends.

Let’s face it…unless you’re going someplace where it’s hot ALL YEAR, you’re only going to be in school for a few “hot” months. Bring a fan and suck it up.

Our dorms don’t have A/C, and it’s definitely bearable. I think living close to your friends is worth it.

im sure small AC units are allowed, at least they are at my university…and i hear that the rooms actually get a bit cold

bring a fan.
you’ll appreciate your decision when you’re running to class with a heavy bookbag.

I say A/C, but not because I need comfort. Just because it’s good to meet new people. If you’re talking about high school friends then this is good opportunity for you to expand your horizons, while still being friends with them. But if you dorm near them, you may subconciously limit yourself.

^That’s a good point…I was basing this off of my experience, returning as a 2nd-year student. I’m living next to a whole bunch of my best friends. :)

A/C, no doubt about it.

Is that 10 minutes walking? If its just an extra 10 minute walk then yeah, AC.

Is there a price difference?

Seeing as how AZ gets temperatures of 110+, I wouldn’t even consider a building without air conditioning.

I think I’d die in AZ without a/c. I was there in august and going from the car to outside felt like stepping into a sauna, except more severe.

Even if this is second year, I think my opinion still kinda fits. You can make even more college friends and still be friends with your old ones. You still could be limiting yourself if you live with your friends. I think the A/C is worth it. lol cool air and new friends! :)

How warm does it get in Indiana? Depending on when you start and finish school, a/c may not be necessary. I mean, you’re only going to need it for, at most, the first month of school and maybe the last couple of weeks. (At my school, the a/c isn’t even on at the end of the school year.)

Of course, you can always make new friends in the honors dorm, but if the friends you’re talking about are your “core group,” then even a ten minute walking distance can seem long and inconvenient. I lived in a fairly isolated dorm sophomore year. Granted, I was living with my friends, but my dorm was very far from campus and felt like I missed a lot.

Right now I live in northern indiana and IU is southern indiana, so I’m not positive on temperature. Regardless, thanks for all of your input, I think that I am going to choose to live in the Forest dorm (far away but with A/C)
