Livi apartments or Rockoff

I'm deciding on which apartments to live next year, and I would like to hear some opinions which apartments are better, the new Livingston apartments or Rockoff in Downtown New Brunswick? I heard both are nice but Rockoff is a little more expensive to live in.

Assuming you want the 9 month contract, Livi is actually more expensive:
Livingston Apartments
2 Bedroom 1 Bath Singles- $8,960.00
2 Bedroom 2 Bath Singles- $9,094.00
3 Bedroom 2 Bath Singles- $8,870.00
4 Bedroom 2 Bath Singles- $8,690.00

Rockoff Apartments
2 Bedroom Doubles- $8,542.00

Have you been through Rutgers Housing Lottery system? Depending on the number you draw you may not have a shot at any of these apartments, or you might be able to piggyback in on someone elses number if they have a good number and want you to be one of their roommates. Good luck my son after his first year had number 10,985 … needless to say he would have been left out and on his own to find a rental but thankfully he got hired as an RA.

rualum posted the below -

Students living on campus this upcoming academic year can expect change in the set up of the lottery system. Seniority will now be taken into account."

Hey @Cali19

Just curious, what’s RA? And how and when did he apply for the position? And does your S like Rutgers?

From Rutgers Web Site

Resident Assistants and Apartment Assistants form the face and the voice of Housing and Residence Life at Rutgers. As such all AA/RAs must be committed to our mission, which is to foster and inspire strong, inclusive communities; encourage and support students in their academic, social and personal growth; help students develop skills to succeed in a diverse, global society; and promote the appreciation of diversity.

AA/RAs are expected to serve as role models on campus, exhibit the ability to be effective listeners and excellent resources, and to show ethical behavior at all times.

Due to the unique nature of the position of the AA/RAs, work cannot easily be translated into hours per week. The AA/RA job requires both regularly scheduled responsibilities and times during which AA/RAs are available and accessible to floor residents. AA/RAs are expected to be reasonably available and willing to work during emergencies and other unexpected events for which Housing and Residence Life support is needed.

Cali19 - It can be a little or a lot of work, depends on your assignment . It does however equate to free room and board, which isn’t to shabby. Definitely can help bring down the overall cost of ones education while providing a great opportunity for self development and leadership skills. If your a freshman you can apply during the Fall Semester of your first year. The applications come out I believe in November, but you have time to work on them, I think they are not due until end of December or early January. The interview process can be lengthy, but just the whole process of applying and interviewing in itself is a valuable experience. If it sounds like something you would be interested you should give it a shot no matter where you end up going to school.

My son at first didn’t like Rutgers, he expected a more worldly and polished peer group. He was used to living in a large cosmopolitan city and New Brunswick left something to be desired. Over time however he has grown to like it, there are things that he still doesn’t like but it now feels like home and he is glad that he is apart of the RU experience. He has had many fantastic opportunities to grow as an individual (RA, Internships,Community Service, Honor Society, Fraternity Member) and feels that he is getting a great education as well. He does feel though that your experience is what you make of it. Hope this helps !

The mandatory meetings for RA applications for next year ended on Dec 4 or 5th. They send an email to your inbox to notify you sometime in November.

Thanks for the info!!
