What exactly are the living learning communities? Are they required? Are only the weird people part of them if they aren't required? Could someone please help me know because I have 15 days until housing application is due!!

I’m pretty sure all freshmen live in LLCs. Go to the Miami Ohio web page and search on LLC. You’ll find what you need.

All freshmen live in LLCs. You don’t actually do a whole lot with them so it doesn’t matter much which one you end up with, but it’s kind of nice because it gives you something in common with the people you live with.

^What they said - all freshmen are in LLCs.
One note - your S or D could also live in the Honors LLC (Tappan and I believe also Emerson) even if they’re not in the Honors Program. I’m not sure that they point that out in the LLC info. Our S is in it and so he lives in Tappan, even though it wasn’t a requirement, and on the other hand his two best friends on his floor aren’t in it - but they are plenty smart too. Also if his roommate (who frankly he’s not as close to) is any guide, there are plenty of non-nerds in Tappan too. It’s not all tech heads and pre-meds.
Frankly, given the dorms physical set-up - all low-rise, nice traditional Georgian architecture, very accessible - even if your child picks an LLC that turns out not to be right for them, our sense is that it’s not that huge a part of dorm life anyway. They don’t spend their lives back and forth in the elevator or in a lounge on the 8th floor or whatever - there are no high-rises at Miami like at most medium to large sized schools - all of the buildings are walkable. Plus if your S or D decides that their choice doesn’t fit soon after they arrive they are able to make a change in maybe the first week or so.
