LMU screenwriting admissions

I am a senior in high school an I will be applying to screenwriting schools this fall. LMU is by far my number one. According to normal school admissions I am there ideal student based off of sats and such. I'm a little low on the GPA stats but still acceptable. Anyway I find a lot of admissions stats and information on the school in general but I cannot find any on screenwriting specifically.

How do they decide who gets in? How much emphasis is on the portfolio and how do I know if I have a good chance at being accepted? In afraid of going in blind and not having many backup schools because all of these screenwriting schools are so selective.

I am an experienced writer. I have been spending all summer practicing y craft and I will be doing an independent study in screenwriting for my senior year. I am also filming a short film and I will be the videographer for our football team.

So anyone who has gone through the process any information would be great.

Thank you

My son was admitted to the “film and television” school, and it certainly seems the admit rate to the different schools there vary. I believe there is a post within the last six months that mentions the admit rate to the school of “film and television”. Although I don’t know for sure why my son was accepted, the kids and families that asked questions at the admitted students event for that school seemed very experienced and knowledgable. I don’t know how many in that audience attended.

I don’t think a portfolio was required, but I seem to remember an inteesting supplement for the “televison production” major, and I imagine that carries quite a bit of weight.

My son ended up in the school of engineering, and I don’t think the school averages acurately reflect the stats of students there, either.

Here it is

Gotham Writers Workshop has classes in New York and online. You need to be 18 to take screenwriting, but there are also classes for teens. I’ve taken a few in playwriting and have been very happy with them. Price is about $400 per class.

It’s interesting that you say that shrinkrap. I was talking to someone else who got accepted into the program and se seemed to have very little interest or knowledge about the major at all. I was kind of hoping that would give me an edge especially with the amount of time I spent trying to get a great portfolio (I can still use it for other colleges and it’s great practice so not all bad) but I found that interesting.

Also Ive been wondering if applying early action would hurt me at all. I hear that acceptance is higher in EA but that could be because students at the top of their class decided to apply early an compared to them I have less f a chance. Also if I am deferred I’m afraid they will put me on the bottom of the RD pool and give them priority. Does anyone know if that would be the case? And if so should I apply EA?
