Thank you everyone for the good words. I'll pass them on to the son. We've been lurking here for awhile so I almost feel as if I know some of you!
The LOA came at a good time b/c we (I!) were getting anxious to know something - anything that would indicate where he would be next year (I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about!).
So, hang in there everyone and Keep the Faith!
GO NAVY! GO CLASS OF 2010!

welcome aboard bz2010 mom and son and a hearty congratulations on your LOA as well!!!

So where do you hail from???

Son received his USNA LOA, dated 11/29. Not a recruited athlete. He is awaiting a nomination. MOCs here- no interviews. Will inform students sometime in December. It did have his LOA being CC to the NC MOCs though.

On another note, same day he received notice of being a Morehead semi-finalist.

Kat

It still hasn't completely sunk in... Hard to believe it's a done deal. (The only checked box was his medical which he has already passed).

He is scheduled for a MOC interview later this month - have y'all heard anything about how interviews & noms are affected by an LOA? (I assume the MOCs have known about his pres nom).

If he got the LOA w/ just the pres nom, why would they tell people to go for more than one nom?

Haven't I read on here that some appointments have already gone out?

Should we pop the champagne?? (Or wait for the actual appt?).

Wow! Still so many questions! Thanks in advance to anyone who responds...

LOA + Nom=appointment. I don't know why he would need another nom. This is a sore point with me(not aimed at you of course) but last year my son was struggling for a nomination and some kids had two senatorials plus a congressional. Fortunately he got a congressional but ended up deciding on the CGA which he's happy with. Good luck no matter what!

Yeah Boss - I can see your point for sure. Glad it worked out well for your son.
Do you think they like to see kids going for interviews even if they have noms already because it shows more serious intent to attend an academy?

That's possible but there are so many kids out there. I remember telling my son if he got one nom from the senator don't bother to go to the congressional one. I felt it was only fair to go that way. But it's an individual decision and I've seen both sides of the argument on the board. Anyway good luck!

Thanks Boss - if there were an interview set up & someone didn't show up, wouldn't that seem cocky? Wasn't there something on here about some kid having a LOA and then being cocky in the MOC interview and not getting the nom/appt? I guess that's only an issue if you don't have a nom at all going into the interview. Of course he would be straightforward about having the loa.
Whew boy, you know we sure wouldn't want to screw anything up at this stage of the game! I'm always in the "anything can happen" mindset (I was worried that his file would stick to the top of the drawer or something at some point of the process!). I'm just glad to know he's actually still in the system! (Fingers & toes still crossed!).

it's actually good to go for more than one nomination. i got the presidential one to WP, but only 100 kids can go on the presidential nom. i got passed up and am on the waiting list (for kids w/out nominations). they say that the more you can get the better b/c it allows you to compete in more than one category. i got a congressional one to WP also so i can compete for an appointment under that one and if i dont get it i go back on the waiting list.

I was confused by the Presidential one too, because I know that the more nominations you have, the more categories you compete under, but the LOA said that once we receive a nomination we get an Appointment. My BGO said to stop applying for the others because I didn't need them, but my Regional Director told me to continue... I just felt it was unfair to someone else who needed a nom, and that the Presidential nom was already satisfying the conditions of my LOA anyway... I keep getting different answers. however i also heard that if you have an LOA your congressman nominates you but it doesn't go against his quota or anything.
