Location Stereotypes?

Do you guys hear stereotypes about people by where they lived?

Bc I recently talked to a college student, and she said everyone is stereotyped by where they came from, and she said it was usually true.

Like the people from the Boston area were called Jabs.....Jewish American Barbies.

What are some stereotypes that seem to be true?

What are Californias thought to be outside of the best state in the world???

there are definitely a lot of locational stereotypes...
I'd say southerners are very stereotyped, although not having spent much time in the south I can't say if they're true or not!

Not all of us Southerners are dumb backwards fundamentalist hicks! I promise! I know plenty of atheists and agnostics and really awesome not-crazy Christians, and none of them are in any way dumb or hickish.

Basically:

Southerners: evangelical, gun toting, racist hicks
Texans: same as above except they think they are better than everyone
New Englanders: Liberal, Yankee, latte drinking sissies
Californians: Pot-smoking hippies
New Jersey: Dirty, Rough people who deserve pity

Don't forget

Arkansas: The In-bred State

midwesterners...
oh wait...
guess they aren't stereotypes if they true.
except for maybe the one about being friendly. I don't think that's true.

south:baptist, cowboys, and football players/fans

oklahoma: apparently some northern people still think there are indians running around naked in oklahoma.

There aren't?

So wait, Californians are the best state in the world?

If that is the statement you meant to type, then I also have another statement: Californians cannot write in English.

California actually has more indians than OK

lol there are no cowboys in the south, i assure you

I think the OP was saying:
other than being the best state in the world, what do other people think about CA?
if you look, the OP is from CA, so I think that's what they meant.

ohhh....well from a southern point of view (from my ultra conservative town), CA is full of liberal elitist, anti religious, embrace sex like drinking water, and doesn't know what FOX news is.

and every girl does her best paris hilton impression

Apparently when my Aunt was in college they called them Japs (Jewish American Princessess), but I'm pretty sure nowadays there's something politically incorrect about that.

"doesn't know what FOX news is" You say that like it's a bad thing. Fox news is biased to the point that many people don't even consider it a legitimate news station.

new england: prep school starbuck's loving rich kids
south: polite friendly conservative religious cowboy hicks
midwest: friendly laid back hicks
west: maxc0re gay liberal hippies...unless we're talking about socal, in which case it's plastic-surgery enhanced blond chicks with fake tans

and as far as states, there's probably some states that stand out like, cali (provided the nor cal/so cal split), wisconsin (cheese!), idaho (potatoes!), minnesota (that state exists?), texas (cowboys), florida (old people), jersey (ex italian mafia members), etc. but most state stereotypes vary depending on the region...;)

you're probably from CA, haha.

i moved here three yrs ago, so it's definitely an experience for me to see most people here watch FOX news 24/7.

Most people find people from Cali know very little about anything outside their state. They don't know thy have hot summers in the Midwest--only think it snows. They don't tknow that there are Gap stores etc everywhere now.
