LOL at the reason I got rejected, THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

OK So I got off the phone with UCLA admissions and I can't be more pi*ssed and amazed at the same time at the reason they gave to my not being admitted.

First off..my stats:

REJECTED

Current School: UC Irvine

Current Major: Business Economics

Applied Major: Business Economics @ UCLA (I was a UC-UC transfer applicant)

GPA: 3.933

Extra Curricular Activities: UCI Entrepreneur Society Active Member since Fall '08,
Currently Participating in SCORE (Counselor's to America's Small Business) workshops with certificate upon completion. Dean's Honor's list all quarters. I've done Extensive Volunteer-work throughout High School.

Work: Internet Marketing and Sales position at a Small Business for ~4.2 years (2006-present, 12 hours a week)...grew the business by over 30% in terms of profits.

Prereqs: HERE IS WHERE THINGS GET RETARDED

Essays: 8-9/10

The Prerequisite courses for the Business Econ Major are as follows:

* one course in microeconomics 1
* one course in macroeconomics 2
* two courses in calculus (from the math/physical science sequence) 3
* One course in introduction to financial accounting (I did this at UCI-Econ 25)
* one course in introduction to managerial accounting (I did this at UCI-MGMT 30B)
* one advanced course in English composition. (I did this at UCI-Writing 39B, 39C)

I GOT AN 'A' IN ALL PREREQ COURSES.

I went through a lot of trouble to scramble and get these prereqs done, mind you.

So the first thing the lady says is that I was "MISSING a major prereq" and that's why I wasn't admitted.

I obviously couldn't believe this because to my knowledge I had taken every class on their long list (above). She says they won't accept Econ 25 as a financial accounting course. UCI's financial accounting courses are Econ 25 (THE ONE I TOOK) and MGMT 30A. UCI weights BOTH courses equally and BOTH courses are entitled "Financial Accounting." If you read the description of Econ 25, all it talks about is financial accounting. After taking the class itself, I can tell you it was all about Financial ACCOUNTING!

Refer to this webpage for proof that Econ 25 is the same as MGMT 30A:
http://www.economics.uci.edu/index.php?p=34
On the bottom of this page, you will see that the astrix clearly says:
"† Management 30A covers essentially the same material as Economics 25.You can take either course but you will receive credit for only one of them."

...So, the Lady says they WON'T accept Econ 25 as a prereq and says you had to take MGMT 30A!! I tried explaining to her that they were the same exact thing, but she didn't care.

..................
AFTER I GAVE UP ON CONVINCING THEIR ONE-WAY MINDSET...

I simply asked if I could appeal under the economics major, which has far less prereq requirements. AND I know for a fact that I have completed all of them! (I did not initially apply with an alternate major).

* one course in microeconomics [1]-(Econ 20A @ UCI)
* one course in macroeconomics [2]- (Econ 20B @ UCI)
* two courses in calculus (from the math/physical science sequence) 3
* one course in English - critical reading and writing (composition and literature) (I took 2 writing courses! Writing 39B & 39C @ UCI)

She said "that is not new and compelling information"...

I was like...why the hell not! If I wasn't accepted due to the lack of prereqs for the Business Econ major, and now I would like to try for the Econ major (a major where there is no arguing whether I have completed the prereqs or not), then it is new and compelling information.

AGAIN, THEY DIDN'T CARE.

All I can say is...THEIR F'ING LOSS!

hey buddy…join the club. i was rejected with just as high a gpa and just as many completed pre-req etc…the reson they gave was a missing breadth req that i completed at my former 4 year. i had it evaluated by my prof for them, and they rejected it! it was an honors course at a 4 year university. not some ****ty coure at a cc. we read plato, hegel, tolstoy, studied litterary critism through foucault and derrida, etc etc etc…yet it was not acceptable as english 1 a. cal accepted it, by the way, but ucsb davis and la rejected it. efff em dude.

it was a year long course, culminating in a 60 page annalysis of ramoues nephew by diderot. i am taking english 1b right now at a ccc and it is NOTHING compared to what i did in first year honors.

eeeeeeeeeef em

Um, wow, LOL

Okay. First, my condolences. I don’t want to sound like I knew this would happen, but I applied under Econ FOR THIS VERY REASON. Not that I believe that I will get in (still pending), but I was not 100% sure that my financial and managerial accounting classes matched up with the ones at UCLA, so I went with the major that had less pre reqs.

I think this situation sucks balls for you, lol. I don’t know what to say. It is likely that Midnight was rejected for the same reason. If I do get in, I am going to feel REALLY BAD because you two obviously have stronger applications than me; it is just that the system is screwed up.

But thanks for giving me a little bit of hope since I am 100% sure I completed the pre requisites for Econ, :)

I don’t know anything about the Business Econ prereqs or if this would work, but you could try to appeal including the syllabus from the class they won’t accept and if possible even a letter of rec from the professor, and explain in your letter why they should accept Econ 25 because you learned everything you would have in the other course.

Anyway, I’m so sorry, you really deserved to get in. =/

Did your URSA change at all when you were rejected or it just doesnt change to the two row format?

@ Tessa831

That is a good idea. I will email the professor I had for econ 25 ASAP…Funny thing is I received an A+ in Econ 25, not even an A :)

Thanks a lot for the advice!

@ corrinejay

my URSA didn’t change at all, there is no two row format.

That’s so messed up, Sandaboy. :/

You can only blame yourself for not being able to follow directions from assist.org.

@sandaboy you were accepted already?

@ cupertinotransfr

Assist.org doesn’t apply for UC-UC transfers…thanks for being ignorant :)

*or rejected?

@ corinnejay

No I was never accepted…my URSA never allowed me to SIR…I got a rejection status on the admissions website.

SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! CRAZY!!! I’m appealing forreal though now.

MGMT30A messed us up bad.

@ andrewlyzer

Damn dude! sorry about that! This is such BS dude! imma appeal too…just wondering but did you take econ 25 with prof. Capps?

Yeah i am right now actually. this is beyond ridiculous.
my adviser was pretty sympathetic. She said i could try appealing. there’s pretty much zero chance though she said.

But hey, lets both be optimistic and stress to them that our course load shows a strong commitment to completion of the major. I mean after all, financial accounting is financial accounting right? MGMT30a isnt even a prereq to 30b.

this is all messing with my head.

if they still say no after all this, then there literally will be nothing more that we can do, sandman.

So I say if we both get rejected again, let’s just both live baller ass lives and forget UCLA, all right? It’s just one letdown among many that won’t mean a damn thing once we finally settle down and find other ways to be happy.

@ andrewlyzer

do you wanna meet up with prof. capps and try to get him to write us a letter?..he’s a really nice guy BTW

@ andrewlyzer

I’m totally with you…F*** UCLA lol…High GPA at UCI is better than an OK GPA at UCLA anyways ;)
