Long term, in College!?

I am constantly getting the notion that most of the college relationships are more short term/hook ups than long term relationships.. I was wondering if anyone could clear up how exactly relationships in colleges are... especially for frosh ^_^

Many freshman college relationships are short term. Some can be long term, but those are more of an exception than a rule with freshmen. Many freshmen girls are busy hooking up with upperclassmen to be in serious relationships. Give them a year or two, then they would be more willing to have a serious relationship. Of course another exception is those high school relationships that do work. I had hallmates who were roommates and had their girlfriends over every weekend.

The advice I've heard over and over is...
Don't get into a relationship (yet) in your freshman year. :) Just meet new people constantly and start established some close friends.

Hey, I went into college expecting to stay single through my freshman year at least to meet people. Well, that didn't last and I met a guy my first month there...and we'll be getting married next year after over 6 years of dating! Our friends who also started dating first semester freshman year just got married last month. So, keep an open mind, if you find someone you want to be with, go with the flow! :D

I agree with going with the flow...just let things go as they will and enjoy, it's ridiculous to flat out say I'm going to stay single through this month or year or whatever.

Look at it like this. The vast majority of top tier college students don't get 4.0s. So they say, "No, your high school 4.0 isn't going to carry over into college." However, a small number of people do end up getting a 4.0. It's basically the same idea for long-term relationships.

About half of the married people I know met their spouses in college. So...a lot of people will be hooking up just to hook up...but that doesn't mean that's what everybody does, or what you have to do. Have fun, but if you meet someone you really like, you guys will make it work.
