What about CMU? or Syracuse?
Davidson?
Make sure your son explains the 8th grade B’s in the additional section of the apps. With 3 1/2 years of all A’s I would think he would have a 4.0 even with 2 B’s.
That’s a good idea, explaining the B’s. Yeah, I don’t know exactly how his school calculates grades (93-100=A, 85-92=B, no real weighting for honors/AP classes,a 4.0 is the max grade, period) but he currently has a 96.24 % and 3.87 GPA. I can’t see his complete transcript online to do the math. Maybe he can get a copy from his guidance counselor.
Clemson for the football!
Clemson has many options for your son. If you’re looking for merit, you need to be applying soon. Deadline is December 8 th I think. You should double check on their website for sure.
Case Western, Tulane, UMiami, Virginia Tech, and especially Pitt (his scores virtually guarantee him a scholarship and it’s excellent for biology/genetics)
I’d echo the suggestions for Case Western, University of Rochester, and Miami University. I’m guessing he already looked at and decided against Temple with their automatic full tuition plus two 4k enrichment grants?
Also, I like your family’s strategy. Once you’ve been accepted to a college you like and can afford, you can shoot for the moon. But, I don’t think you can negotiate higher merit scholarships between colleges with automatic scholarships for stats, and if he got in, Stanford won’t care if Alabama costs less.
Carnegie Mellon, U Southern California, Tufts, Wake Forest, U Rochester, Boston University, Case Western, Tulane

Be careful when looking at lists of schools. There has been quite a bit of misinformation posted.
Purdue, Minnesota-Twin Cities - good engineering and sciences, not insane OOS tuition. Many scholarships for high stat kids. Matches for him.
Michigan LSA Honors program. (Check into Shipman scholars too). Match/High Match. A truly outstanding life sciences program, enormous research facilities with hundreds of labs. #2 for research $ in USA. Great college experience too. LSA honors students are fast tracked and have access to the best research opportunities, their own dorm area, honors classes, etc. Good FA for state school too.
UT Dallas - Check into McDermott scholars program
Colleges do not count grades in 8th grade classes at all. He has a 4.0 as far as they are concerned.
I don’t believe Michigan or Purdue fall under the category of ‘generous merit aid’. I wish!
Bellarmine and Loyola New Orleans don’t belong to the list above,as well as, arguably, Drexel.
U Southern Calif offers many 1/2 Tuition and full Tuition scholarships to top students like your DS, BUT he needs to COMPLETE and submit his application by DEC 1 in order to be considered for any merit scholarships.
USC is now ranked in the top 20 nationwide-and has fabulous Biology Medical Engineering / Chemical Engineering programs.

Top students at USC are encouraged to study interdisciplinary majors / minors in different areas. USC also has a great Intro Honors Science and Humanities programs.
I advise that he not enter his 8th grade classes on the application- most colleges wont ask for or even bother to include middle school classes when they recalculate his 9-12 GPA. Listing classes taken in middle school is not necessary and may confuse those who look at his application.
@stressingmom if he doesn’t need the class, can you ask the school to remove the high school class taken in 8th grade from his transcript? Our D was in the same situation – and high school classes taken in 8the grade ARE listed on HS transcript and counted in GPA at our school too. However, because my D had four more years of math in high school anyway, we requested that her geometry class and its “B” – taken in 8th grade – be removed from her transcript. It was and her GPA went up a tenth of a point.
Boston University does NOT offer Chemical Engineering!
I don’t know who @newjerseygirl98 is but so far every list she’s posted has contained misinformation. Eckerd is a small LAC with maybe 2000 students. I also have my doubts about Berry College, a LAC in Georgia.
I’m so sorry, I think I used an unreliable website. That list took me a while to write. What are good sites to find colleges, so I can double-check my information ?
@SlackerMomMD Berry College does have chemical engineering, but it’s as a double-major. It’s not a well-known school, but it’s not bad. I forgot to cut out some small schools. Which other lists have misinformation? Nobody has said anything.
I’m really sorry. I made you a new list, I’ve specifically checked the student population & chemical engineering majors.
