Thanks for the suggestions ! He talked to the guidance counselor about getting the 8th grade grades removed, no dice. The school system considers them core high school classes, even though he’s taken math and sciences every year in high school as well. (He’s taking AP Calc AB/BC this year).
I’m going to discuss the options with him this weekend.
Colleges will create their own GPA. As long as the transcripts note that the classes were taken in 8th grade they will be ignored. Some schools ignore 9th grade marks as well. You can note that the classes were taken in middle school on your supplements as well.
^make sure to note, in “additional information”, that … and … were taken in the 8th gade. Highly selective, “holistic” colleges will recalculate GPA.
For many of the schools listed above the merit deadlines have already passed, most were Nov 1.
The school will most likely recalculate GPA. 96% at my son’s school would be over 4.0.

Re: #29 - Eckerd is a small liberal arts college. Any list that includes it among universities with more than 10k students is a list to disregard.
What about McGill, in Montreal? It won’t offer much merit aid, but it’s less expensive than most US private and out-of-state public universities.
