I am currently a college freshman at University of Delaware on winter break. My first semester was an absolute disaster and because of some anxiety related issues along with a general dislike for the school, my GPA is only a 2.8 currently. I am looking to transfer for Fall 2015 so I know that I still have spring semester to hopefully bring up my grade to at least the required 3.0 for transfer applicants, but what do you think my chances of getting into AU are with just about a 3.0? Is it even possible to raise my GPA 0.2 points by then? This is honestly a very strange position for me to be in because I was never a 4.0 student in high school but around a 3.7 so this 2.8 is really throwing me off and discouraging me. Please, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, a few people have suggested to be to stay at UDel for another semester/year but thats really not an option as I am very unhappy there. Thank you!
I’m in the same exact boat, and I’m wondering as well. So don’t worry, you’re not alone Did you apply last year? I did and I didn’t get in, and I’m wondering if that will affect my chances? I did pretty well in high school though but I guess not well enough:/
I would just go ahead and apply, and just really work hard on your personal statement, explain what you learned about yourself while there, why transferring would be beneficial, etc. Don’t expect everything to change though just from changing university, look into what the issue is, and what you think will be different. If you don’t get in you could do your sophomore year at a CC.
I was miserable at my first university, dropped out with a 1.5 despite a similar GPA to you in high school, took a year off, got better, went back to a CC, got almost all A’s, and have gotten into more selective schools than I did out of high school despite a worse cumulative GPA. I didn’t even finish my first year and in 3 semesters of CC I was ready to transfer. Hang in there!
