Looks like I'll be living in Gilchrist Hall.. But I have some questions.

For any of you that have lived in Gilchrist hall before, how is life like? I'm obviously concerned that Yakeley hall is attached. I'm a guy and I want to be integrated with females.. honestly, I'm concerned that Gilchrist is either going to be mostly guys, or filled with girls that requested to live in Yakeley hall. (I'm sure there's nothing wrong with most girls in Yakeley hall, my concern is that those girls won't be nearly as much fun) So can a guy living in Gilchrist set this straight for me?

Gilchrist is half girls and half boys. I haven’t lived there, but I’m almost sure of it. As a general rule, all coed dorms are split relatively equally in terms of gender. Yakeley is all girls, but believe it or not, a lot of the girls in Yakeley do not choose to live there, they get placed there. There are tons of opportunities to meet people in the dorms and it certainly doesn’t hurt to just go into girls hallways and introduce yourselves (to the girls with open doors). Yakeley/Gilchrist is in West Circle, probably the quietest neighborhood in the dorms. It is not known for being super social, but don’t let that stop you too much from having fun. And many house parties/frats are nearby, as is brody (which has the largest/best cafeteria, the most freshmen and probably the craziest atmosphere). One of my best friends lived in Yakeley her freshman and sophomore years and she always partied with us and was able to make a ton of friends not necessarily in her dorm but elsewhere…so even if you don’t make too many friends in the dorms, there are tons of other opportunities to meet people…go to all the welcome events and start introducing yourself/chatting up people and you will be fine.

I’m a girl and I’ll be living in Gilchrist in the fall too!

Yakeley-Gilchrist is a wonderful place to live! I lived in Yakeley last year, and I’m in Yakeley, in the same room this year too. Gilchrist is a pretty even split between boys and girls, and Yakeley is all girls. The whole building feels like one dorm, there isn’t much of a distinguishing line between Yakeley and Gilchrist except a doorway on each floor, really. But getting out and meeting people, guys or girls, shouldn’t be too difficult. My roommate last year was over in Gilchrist hanging out with her friends all the time.

We are the quietest/smallest dorm neighborhood, but that makes us pretty tight-knit and gives us a relaxing vibe, I feel. There’s always things going on on each floor, in each hall, or in the neighborhood itself. And if you want the bigger party vibe, Brody is pretty close. :)

Welcome to West Circle!
