Hi guys, I was wondering if a school(specifically Loomis) could accept 2-3 people from the same town to their school for sophomore year. I am going to take the SSAT soon and my friend is applying with a 97th overall percentile while the other applicant is a legacy. I feel upset that I may not do well on my SSAT and also need advice on that. Thank you!
Please don’t worry about this, especially as you are all local.
10th grade admittance is certainly competitive at schools like Loomis, but I doubt being from the same town will be much of a disadvantage, if at all. If all of you fit what Loomis most wants, you’ll have a good chance. I know of at least three kids from my Midwest town who got into Andover last year, for example.
I’m a Loomis parent of a day student and, just anecdotally, we know both multiple legacies and also great students with near perfect Ssats that were not accepted in the last few years. Nothing is a golden ticket. I highly recommend looking up the Genuine Admissions blog that the Director of Enrollment writes each month. It will answer a lot of your questions about what they are looking for in their applicants.
Also, the majority of students that were accepted last year (I think the stat was 70% or 2/3 but don’t quote me on that) did not submit SSAT scores, so I don’t think you should stress too much about the test. Teacher recommendations, interviews and essays are all as important if not more so.
Alright, thank you very much! My friend who got a 97th percentile got rejected last year because she was late and didn’t have an SSAT score but then is applying this year with the good SSAT score and I was wondering if they would still accept her despite her being rejected last year.
Thank you for the advice! I was wondering if someone who got rejected last year would still get in this year because that is the case with my friend. I was also wondering if I could get in with 3.8 GPA in 8th and a 4.0 in 9th would affect my chances. I was also wondering if schools write handwritten Christmas cards to everyone.
Re-applicants are admitted all the time, not unusual.
Read nothing in to handwritten Christmas cards, also not unusual.
Your GPA is fine and indicates you can do the work at any school you apply to. Good luck!
What every adult has told you is a variation of: focus on your own application.
There is more to an application than SSAT scores or grades - there is a very human component: how will an applicant fit in and contribute to the community?
