Hello. I am planning to apply to loomis for my 2016-2017 year. I’ve been reading into it for a week, and I’ve been very discouraged by all the posts about students that get A+'s throughout all their classes. I generally care about learning rather than my grades, so I usually get a 3.7-3.8 GPA. Since I’m in middleschool, I take the generic science and language arts classes. I also take geometry and Algebra 1(got 76k khan academy points over the week and everyone in my class stole the airheads that I won because of it ;(). I really enjoy music, and I know how to play the bass(learning it this year) and the cello. Afterschool things that I do include my school’s math team, (math counts), have a ball coding and chamber orchestra. I do well in the generic social studies and language arts classes, but I’m not as competitive in them as I am in math and science. Because of my grades and my preferences, what are the chances that I will be overlooked? Do you think that I’ll get to explain this during the interviews?
You should also look at Suffield Academy. Amazing campus, very strong class offerings - can be as rigorous as you need it to be, great student body, and lots of after class offerings. My daughter entered as a 10th grader from a prep school in Dallas and absolutely loves it.
Glad to hear you are specifically considering Loomis. We are new to the “island” this year, but so far we are so happy,
Your stats sound like they are fine in my estimation. But of course everyone applying has similar stats, so I would suggest a wide net of research and applications. I’ve learned that admission is a funny “game”, and so many things go into acceptance.
I wish you well. Go for it! If you have any specific questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

I am interested in learning more about Suffield. It is high on our son’s list and I have heard a lot of good things. Any concerns or complaints so far? We care a great deal about community and campus values. If this should be a different thread, I will change it.
