A typical day involves class (8:30-3:20) and the sports/community service (until 5:45 usually) then some free time until dinner and study hall from 7:45-9:45.

2) what are weekends like?

Weekends are usually pretty low-key, but there is almost always something going on (a dance, concert, open-mic night etc). There is always something to do.

3) dating scene?

Not crazy but not nonexistent. You’ll see for yourself when you get to Loomis, I figure it depends on the person.

4) parties? alcohol? drug scene?

Again, not crazy. You’re not looking for crazy parties and drugs are you?

5) do parents who live close by take their kids home each weekend?

There are definitely kids who go home every weekend but a big number of them don’t. A lot of people live way to far away to go home for a weekend.

6) fav thing about dorm life? worst thing about dorm life?

I love my roommate, I love having my friends steps away and being able to hangout in their rooms all the time. Things can get crazy in a girls dorm (and guys too, I’m sure) but things are cool most of the time.

1) Do you like having the high day student population?

I have a lot of day student friends as well as boarder friends. I don’t really notice it much. I see my day student friends mostly in classes or sports.

2) Is it hard to get involved in a new sport if you don’t have much experience?

I wouldn’t think so. There are JV and thirds teams for most sports so I’m sure it’s pretty easy to learn as long as you are willing to work hard. That being said, I totally recommend playing on a sports team, especially in the fall. It’s a great way to meet people when you first get to school.

3) What are the dorms like? Dorm life?

The dorms are great. I love dorm life. It’s fun to be so close to your friends all the time.

4) Is it pretty easy to get used to the dress code?

The dress code is really easy to get used to (no jeans, sweats, athletic wear, etc. during class hours).

5) Anything else about Loomis we should know?

Your time at Loomis will be what you make of it. Come, get involved, talk to people you wouldn’t normally, try something new, work hard and have fun.

can your athletic coaches be your teacher for a class? like since i’m going there for hockey, the girls hockey coach is also a history teacher i believe so is it possible that i would get her for a teacher? same with the other coaches…

@buddy797 - That’s exactly right. Your teachers are your coaches. Many of them also live on campus (as dorm faculty) so you get to know teachers really well.

Loomis was supposed to give new students official email addresses and access to the portals today. Am I the only one who still hasn’t got anything?

to whoever asked if there is a fencing club at Loomis, there is fencing as a sport in Winter and it was offered for at least two years now and anyone can sign up for it

and to the question about classes and schedule, schedules usually get sent to you during summer break which will, for us, start on 5/31 and dont worry if it doesnt arrive till sometime in august, that is when we usually get it before we return to school. The classes do not necessarily change every day, we go by timeblocks, and each day the timeblocks are differently ordered and the lengths differ. So one day you can have a normal lengthed chemistry class for 45 minutes, and the next day you can have a extended class (normally used for labs+projects) for 80 minutes. There is an extended period for each class once a week.
