Hey! Thanks if you comment :D I have absolutly no clue as to where I should apply. I NEED to narrow my college list A TON. I'm really lost in a sea of colleges and would love suggestions as to what seems like a good fit. Presently I will apply to all the UCs, UW Seattle, Stanford (long story, my granny is paying for the app), and a few CSU schools. Aside from these the whole world of private and out of states is a big question mark. Please make suggestions as to where you think I should/could go. Thanks!

So yer. IM CONFUSED AND AWASH IN A SEA OF SCHOOLS. recommend a few that would be good for a very liberal average student like me? would prefer coasts.

We need to know a little bit more about what you want in a school. Your stats while not perfect are strong and you will be able to get into a good school which is why we need more information. Can you please tell us the following about what you want in a school
Big, medium or small school?
Public or private?
Liberal arts college or a traditional university?
What part of the country do you want to live in? Is there a specific city you would be especially happy in?
Are there any specific majors that you want the school to have?
Would you rather attend a more prestigious school where you will receive less financial aid in merit based aid (one of your reaches or matches) or a less prestigious school with more financial aid in the form of merit based scholarship (safeties)?
Do you want there to be sororities and fraternities?
Do you want the school to be very involved in sports?

That’s my problem. I don’t have any ides. I don’t want liberal arts for sure, but aside from that I don’t know. I suppose I am leaning towards public uni’s. I don’t think I care much about the size of the school. As for part of the country, I don’t know. I live in a Mediterranean climate and haven’t experienced much in the way of REAL CONSTANT snow/cold. But I figure it shouldn’t make a massive difference because I’m going to be sitting inside studying most of the time anyways. I don’t want a small town though. My planned major is chem or chem related so its not really restricting as to which schools I can attend. Money is not an issue, so merit aid would be nice but not necessary. I don’t plan on joining a sorority but don’t mind if the campus has them. And I would prefer if the campus isn’t hugely involved in sports. Such a long winded but I suppose, necessary, answer.

I would personally recommend looking at perhaps USC if you want to stay in California (I’m assuming you’re a Cali kid because you are applying to CSUs). And I have a friend applying to University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign who wants to study chem there because she says it has a good reputation (I think it might be kind of sporty, though).

Yeah. USC is in a bad neighborhood though. I’m more interested in schools that are outside of California that I haven’t heard of yet! I figure that I should apply to a ton of schools and then tour the campuses I get into. And since I don’t have any idea about out of states, I would LOOOOOVEE some suggestions what schools might accept a kid like me.

Personally I would not recommend applying to a ton of schools (it is extremely expensive). You would probably like University of Pittsburgh a lot, strong science program, urban environment (in a good part of the city), we get snow here but not a ton. You should also look into University of Maryland, basically everything the same as Pitt but less urban.

I think you would have fun in Boston. It’s a fun city for students because there are so many. Both Boston University and Northeastern are in the city. They are both private but on the larger side. I think they would be safeties/matches for you. Boston has a change of seasons but it does get cold. I would take it any day over a warmer but rainy place. I am familiar with BU’s chemistry department. it is good and as a student you can do research if you want. I don’t know as much about Northeastern’s chem dept but with all the biotech and pharmaceutical companies in Boston, I bet you could get some good internships through Northeastern’s coop program.

Thanks! I’ll look into BU, U of Pittsburg, and U of maryland. It’s nice to have suggestions for kids with gpas like me I’m not sure though about Northeastern. My parents make northeastern sound like a bad/fake school. Like its Univeristy of phoenix or ITT tech or some phony school. Not sure where they are getting their info from (it is also 30 year old info). Is there any truth to what they say about Northeastern?
