Low GPA and chances of getting into one of the Claremont Colleges?

Hello Everyone,

I am a current community college student, and just today I found out that I will be ready to transfer once I finish my Math requirements. With that being said, my counselor advice me on the possibility of applying to the Claremont Colleges, however my GPA is less than spectacular. I have an average GPA of 2.8, with my college level classes having an average GPA of 2.9 - 3.0.

I am weighing all my options right now, and I am really interested in their Political Science program. I also want to apply to other Private Universities in California (I am from Southern California) with good rankings (that are non religious,) or a state school (Cal State LA. SD. LB ,) etc.

Should I go ahead an apply to the Claremont Colleges, or should I save my self the trouble?

Some Basic Stats about me:

Hispanic, 23 years old, and brothers and sisters have graduated from other colleges.

Thanks
-Jose

Which Claremont colleges are you interested in applying? Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer? You realize that these schools are very selective, so not to be a “Debbie downer”, but I would say your chances are not great.

This is from the Claremont McKenna website:
We recommend that applicants have a college gpa of at least 3.3. The Admission Committee also considers factors such as course selection, reasons for transfer, recommendations, extracurricular involvement, writing ability and personal circumstances.
