Low gpa first year of college, any tips?

I just finished my first year at a community college but I have no hopes of transferring. I wish to attend CSULB or UCI, with an interest in medicine but I feel like my dreams are crushed. I currently have a 2.3 gpa… statistic is not a strong subject of
mine and I withdrawed from that class beside I didn’t want to get an an F. However, I just took it this summer bjt ended up with a D.
Here are my horrific grades for my classes.
C in Ethnic studies
A in English 60 (Intro to Eng 100)
F in English 100 because it was online and I have learned that I cannot learn via online classes.
B in Sociology
A in Psychology
N/A in stat
D in stat (retake)

I know I am extremely dumb but are there any tips for me to be motivated to study? I do study but I tend l study the day before a test. How do I stop this habit? What are my chances of transferring to a UC?

You still have plenty of time to bring up your GPA. Retake English 100 and Statistics. You can replace any grade lower than a C. Once you retake them with passing grades, the UCs and CSUs will only consider the passing grades when calculating your GPA. Obviously this means a rather significant boost to your GPA.

Don’t beat yourself up so much. It’s okay to acknowledge you messed up, but don’t let it keep you down. I think you know what you need to do going forward. Study consistently and well before any exams. It can be tough, but you can make it easier. Let’s say you have an exam two weeks from a particular date. If you studied 15 minutes a day, that’s 3.5 hours of studying. Now imagine if you did 30 minutes of studying a day. That’d be 7 hours of studying. You can manage studying to make it seem like far less of a hassle.

You’ll be fine as long as you do what’s necessary. I have a feeling you already know what you need to do. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your motivating words. I have beaten up myself too much when comparing my grades in high school to now. I think it’s time for me to stop making excuses and try harder. I haven’t grasp onto the independent life. I’m so used to having the teachers tell me what to do. Once again, thank you!

As of now, don’t think about post csu/UC. You’ll have time to think about it once you’ve secured a spot at a church or a UC.
Try to read ‘do what you are’.
When you get your syllabus, report the readings in your calendar (phone, online, or planner…) highlight test dates and days papers are due. Then go back to the weekend before that date and highlight the test or paper’s date there with a reminder you ought to start studying. On that day, go to a place without your electronics .the college library’s good, but a diner or coffeehouse can work, too. Turn our phone off or to flight mode for 30mn and work uninterrupted.
Remember to have 7-8 hours of sleep at night - for that, turn all electronics off or put phone on flight mode but program the alarm to wake you about 1h beforebou’re due in class.

In addition, should I retake statistic right away because I took it this summer (failed) and the semester before that (failed). I am going to take college algebra since I’m better with algebra, trig or calculus typed math. I will come back to statistic later on. Also, I’m taking General Chemistry, Biology (emphasis on cells and tissues) and College Algebra. I believe that’s enough class for me and if I take English 100, I might not be able to focus on the other classes. I’ve put a lot on my place before and the results ended badly for all the classes! I follow assist.org transfer classes but I need to complete my igetc courses, right? I don’t know too much about it.

most CC’s have a study skills center, and all have a counseling center. Make appts with these offices to get assistance in changing.

Retake as many as possible and do better. A rising trend is better than as declining or flat-lining where it is now.
