Low GPA, high SAT: Any chance of merit?

Hello everybody, asking this for a friend:

Does anyone know whether a low GPA rules out merit money (not including full tuition scholarships), regardless of SAT? Does Pitt have a minimum requirement for GPA when deciding merit awards, or do they use a formula that combines both GPA and test scores? For example, would a student with a GPA of 3.0 who scored 1570/1600 on the SAT automatically be out of consideration for any merit, given the GPA?

Thanks.

Candles, here is Pitt’s page which describes their academic scholarship criteria.

I have not heard of Pitt giving money for scores alone. In general, it looks for a higher GPA even for admission.

MD Mom is right. The average GPA of a student from the 2012-2013 year was a 3.93. When the average is that high, you’re certainly going to need both a High GPA and a High SAT to get some sort of merit money UNLESS you have 1+ unique hooks (less popular state, less popular major, etc.)

Generally speaking though, you need both to get money.

Thanks, AO.

Here is the relevant info from AwesomeOpposum’s link. It is for admission, not merit money.
