Low Income = Tuition Waived?

A friend of mine recently mentioned that on all UC campuses, tuition is waived for students whose families make less than 30k a year. Does anyone have a source or is that statement completely false?

If you make under 60,000, financial aid will cover tuition.

If I recall correctly, that ceiling was raised to 70,000 when the tuition increases were approved.

^Yup 70k or less now.

Sort of, CSU’s will “waive” tution while the UC’s will cover it for you (Now the ceiling is $70,000 as posted above). That’s probably where your friend was confused. Also there are special provisions for “wards of the state” and former foster youth.

Also note that one has to be a California resident to qualify (along with a few other requirements), not just have an income under $70k :)

also, if ur cal grant or pell grant or other FA already gives u enough money, the gold and blue opportunity plan (free tuition to household income less than $70,000) doesn’t apply. so if u get $13,000 already from all ur FA aid packages, u won’t get anything more. so all of that would be applied to the tuition, which will be around what $12,000 (?), u’ll just have $1000 left…but if u only get like $5k from pell and cal grants, then the B&G plan will cover the rest of the $7k in tuition fees. u still need to pay for everything else of course
