if i don't have a cal grant, will the uc blue and gold program will cover it?

B&G is not a grant, it’s a promise.

Do you know if you qualify for B&G? If so, and you don’t get a Cal Grant, then I think you get a UC grant.

How do you qualify for B&G? family income under $80k??

What’s in your FA pkg?

In my unofficial FA letter it says i qualify and yes my family income is under 80k.

When will you get your FA award?

Are you a transfer to a UC?

How do you know that you won’t qualify for Cal Grant?

If income is slightly over 80 do you automatically get nothing? What about 2 kids in school or taking money out of retirement plans that shows up as income? I did not qualify for a Cal Grant. Will I really not get anything?

No i’m not a transfer. i know i won’t qualify because i was emailed by them. my gpa wasn’t high enough.

If you don’t qualify for cal grant but your family income is less than $80 you will automatically get B &G

B&G only looks at income.

I know this because we get B&G

so, tuition cost is covered at least right?

Hi, I am eligible for the B&G program, but what are my chances of getting the B&G program?
I don’t qualify for Cal Grant (A,B & C) due to my family’s assets & we make less than 80k a year, but my financial aid packet covers $17,000/32,000.

What did the $17k in aid consist of??? It sounds like you got B&G.

Is the 80K counted as adjusted gross income?

From what I remember, the 80K is not AGI, it is just income.

It consist of entering UG scholarship, Pell Grant, Campus Fee grant & i can take out 5,500 in loans. I didn’t count the loans in the $17k I can get from financial aid.
Would the B&G program be listed as B&G plan, or listed as something else?

While sometimes it is labeled as Blue&Gold, it is not always. That UG scholarship is a common name used for additional funds given to meet the promise of Blue&Gold. UC Fee Grant and UCXX/X Grant are also common.

$17k more than covers the systemwide fees. You have had the promise of Blue&Gold met.

I have never heard of any UC listing B&G on the FA pkg. If it’s done, it must be a lone UC that does that.

You have gotten the B&G promise because you got $17k in grants…your system-wide tuition/fees are about $14k, so the promise was fulfilled. The UC Grant and Pell Grant is covering your tuition and fees.

The UCs (and many other schools) expect the family and/or student to cover much/most of room, board, and misc costs thru loans, student contributions, etc.

UC Davis gave me a UG scholarship (I’m guessing that means I qualify for Blue & Gold) to cover the rest of my tuition ($2500) after ~$12,000 Cal Grant A, but UCSD isn’t giving me anything, which bumps my tuition cost from $15K to $18k. Why???

If you get it as a freshman will you automatically get it again? The family makes over 80K but full tuition was gift aid.

Obv…your Davis money may be merit based or something. If you qualified for B&G at one UC, then you’d qualify for it at any UC.

I think if you qualify for Cal Grant A for Davis, I think you’d qualify for it at San Diego…you should call on Monday and ask.

Both B&G and Cal Grant are related to/guarantee systemwide fees only (former is a promise, latter is an actual grant). If you have Cal Grant, B&G is met. The additional amount for the other fees (campus fees) is something that each UC decides if they will give additional monies for past systemwide guarantee. That is why there can and is often a difference between each UC package. Also the fact each have different campus fee amounts. Systemwide fees are only about $12k (I think exactly they’re $12,192 for the current year?).

Last year I did see someone (I think in the UC Transfers forum) post they had a grant item actually titled Blue&Gold. I do not remember what UC and it appears to be rare (the most common is the UG Scholarship… which I really wish they wouldn’t call it that since it gives the impression it’s merit based rather than need based).
