Low LSAT = hopes dashed?

I just got back the dreaded LSAT score and it is dismal - 156.

Should I try to take it again? I know I can do better, all of my practice tests were between 164-174?

I feel like it is impossible to get into a good school at this point, even with a strong degree (3.6 in Plan 2 at UTexas).

Oh wise ones, what are my options?

Though low, it is still good enough for a lot of law schools although not your high ranks. Retaking the test can help some but not necessarily a large assist because most law schools average multiple LSAT test scores to get score considered.

I have heard that sometimes a law school will disregard the low score if the second score is significantly higher (10+ points) and if a reason for the low first score is provided. Do you think there is any validity to this?
