Lowest UChicago SAT admit

Hi,
So Im applying to UChicago, and have a CR+M score of 1240 (560 and 680)
Im an indian which may be another negative

To be honest, the rest of my application is really good im not bragging.
Im a national level athlete and sportsman, captain of my state basketball team and have a state record in high jump.
I have really good grades, and ive been getting the highest computer science grades my school has ever seen (97+ for two consecutive years) and if you know India you know how hard the education system is. I only mention this because my expected major is computer science and I dont care whether I did it from an engg college or an LAC

Also, my teachers basically want to adopt me, thanks to my grades and what not

So, my biggest question:

Current Uchicago students: PLEASE tell me if you had low SAT scores/someone you know with low scores who got in, because I want to know if SAT is so crucial

Fellow applicants: What do you think? Do I have a shot? If no, why?

SAT Score Range (Admitted Students): 1230–1600

That’s from the Class of 2016’s profile. I would wager that the lowest score is higher for the Class of 2017. Regardless, it will be awfully difficult to get into UofC with those scores. There are lots of Indians with similar profiles to yours who have much better test scores. Why should UChicago pick you over them? That’s the question your application needs to answer if you want to get in.

Also check out UChicago’s profile at collegedata. 0% of students have a CR score in the 500-600 range. The statistics are not in your favour.

If your CR score is 560 and M score is 680, then you have to ask yourself if you’re capable of doing UChicago undergrad academics.

giantman, that is a completely irrelevant question. We are unaware of the circumstances under which he took the SAT test. And the SAT is just a test, after all. A more useful indicator to gauge his potential to handle the coursework at UofC would be his high school grades and rigor of academics. That said, the competition is intense and those low scores would put OP at a distinct disadvantage in admissions. Perhaps 10 years ago, they would have been overlooked in light of a promising transcript. But now, with the high level of competition, strong SAT scores are an important requisite. That leads to my conclusion that OP is more likely than not to be denied admission at UofC.

PS OP, what’s wrong with the math score? I can understand the weak CR score but as an Indian you should get an 800 in SAT Math. Asians are supposed to laugh at SAT math, actually. lol

It’s definitely a big stretch, but since Chicago views apps more holistically than most schools, you’d have a higher chance applying there than to most similarly selective schools. Good luck! :)

I know, Im not good at standardized tests man. Oh well

I don’t know indian5596. On the face of it, the standardized scores seem low for UChicago, But reading the rest of your bio, you seem like sort of a special case. If you really want it, I’d submit an application and make your case. Good luck to you, regardless what you decide to do.

indian 5596, Go for it, GOOD LUCK.

OP, I would suggest you to retake SAT. Chicago adopts the score choice option which you can take SAT a couple of times.

Your SAT score seems a bit low according to Chicago’s standard. You have a greater risk of not being admitted at all compared to other applicants.

Even your other credentials are strong but you need to be in the ball park first.

Retake the SAT - it will be good for your other opportunities too.

Good luck!

Forgot to mention. Chicago actually supercores SAT like many other schools.

Say, if you retake SAT and get 490CR and 750M. Your SAT score from that sitting will be 1240. But after being superscored your highest CR score and M score from both sittings will be used.

Why do not retake SAT and go from there?
